Febrile gastroenteritis in five healthy persons was associated with the consumption of vacuum-packed cold-smoked rainbow trout containing Listeria monocytogenes. L. monocytogenes isolates from the incriminated fish product lot and the stool samples were all of serotype 1/2a and were indistinguishable by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis employing AscI and SmaI.
AIM To evaluate rpoB gene as a biomarker of microbial biodiversity associated to cold-smoked salmon by a novel nested-polymerase chain reaction/temporal temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR/TTGE) technique applied on pure cultures of reference strains. METHODS AND RESULTS DNA obtained from pure cultures of reference strains was used in a succession of a first PCR amplification of rpo...
This study aimed to optimize and evaluate a thermoresponsive ophthalmic in situ gel containing curcumin-loaded albumin nanoparticles (Cur-BSA-NPs-Gel). Albumin nanoparticles were prepared via a desolvation method, and the gels were prepared via a cold method. The central composite design and response surface method was used to evaluate the effects of varying Pluronic F127 and Pluronic F68 conce...

Dynamic and steady shear rheology is used to examine the synthesis of low-pH (approximately 4) whey protein gels obtained through a two-step process. The first step involves cross-linking of whey proteins at pH 8 and 50 degrees C using transglutaminase enzyme, while the second step entails cold-set acidification of the resulting solution using glucono-delta-lactone (GDL) acid. During the first ...
BACKGROUND This work aimed to provide useful information on the incidence of the choice of formulation in semi-solid preparations of iron-oxide nanoparticles (IONs). The appropriate analytical methods to assess the IONs physical stability and the effect of the semi-solid preparations on IONs human skin penetration were discussed. The physical stability of IONs (Dh = 31 ± 4 nm; ζ = -65 ± 5 mV) l...
Inverse melting is the phenomenon, observed in both helium isotopes, by which a crystal melts when cooled at constant pressure. I investigate discrete-space analogs of inverse melting by means of two instances of a triangular-lattice-gas system endowed with a soft-core repulsion and a short-ranged attraction. To reconstruct the phase diagram, I use both transfer-matrix and Monte Carlo methods, ...
