Thin-film water oxidation catalysts (Co-Pi) prepared by electrodeposition from phosphate electrolyte and Co(NO(3))(2) have been characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Co-Pi catalyst films exhibit EPR signals corresponding to populations of both Co(II) and Co(IV). As the deposition voltage is increased into the region where water oxidation prevails, the population o...
In luteinizing granulosa cells, prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) can exert luteotrophic actions, apparently via the cAMP signalling pathway. In addition to stimulating progesterone synthesis, PGE(2) can also stimulate oxidation of the physiological glucocorticoid, cortisol, to its inactive metabolite, cortisone, by the type 1 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11betaHSD1) enzyme in human granulosa...
Abstract The consumption of critical raw materials, especially those in permanent magnets Nd–Fe–B and Sm–Co-type, has significantly grown the past decade. With predictions on further electrification growing exponentially demand for these materials will even increase. This implies that efforts assuring sustainability must involve recycling from secondary resources. In recent years electrochemica...
Molybdenum disulfide coatings have been employed as lubricants for spacecraft since the 1950s but continue to face major engineering challenges including performance in both terrestrial air and deep space vacuum environments service lifetimes on order of decades without maintenance. Co-deposition MoS2 with additive compounds provide enhancements some circumstances a lubricant which can perform ...
Ultrathin Co(3)O(4) nanostructures with high catalytic oxidation of CO were synthesized by heating cobalt foils under atmospheric conditions. The Co(3)O(4) nanostructures were selectively exposing (111) planes composed of plenty of Co(3+) cations. We observed ultrahigh catalytic oxidation of CO in Co(3)O(4) nanowires with about 3 nm diameter.
The deuterium isotope effect in the steady state CO oxidation rate over Au/ -Al2O3 in the presence of H2 or H2O and the effect of pretreatment on an uncalcined catalyst were studied. In a reaction feed containing 1% CO, 0.5% O2, and 40.5% H2 at room temperature, CO oxidation exhibited a deuterium isotope effect (kH/kD) of 1.4 ± 0.2. The rate of D2 oxidation was also slower than the oxidation of...
The oxidation of adsorbed CO is a key reaction in electrocatalysis. It has been studied extensively on both extended model surfaces and on nanoparticles; however, correlation between the two is far from simple. Molecular insight into the reaction is often provided using in situ IR spectroscopy; however, practical challenges mean in situ studies on nanoparticles have yet to provide the same leve...
The thermal oxidation of polyethylene (PE) impregnated by the methyl esters of unsaturated fatty acids (UFEs) was studied using chemiluminescence, and infra-red spectrophotometry. It was shown that the presence of UFEs accelerates the PE aging process. This can be interpreted as a co-oxidation phenomenon. In this study, the previously established models for PE and UFEs self-oxidation have been ...
