objective botulism is the acute, descending, flaccid paralysis that results when the neurotoxin of clostridium botulinum blocks neuromuscular transmission. c botulinum toxin is the most poisonous substance that blocks neuromuscular transmission and causes death through airway and respiratory muscle paralysis; all forms of botulism manifest neurologically as asymmetric, descending, flaccid paral...

Context. Clostridium perfringens septicemia is often associated with translocation from the gastrointestinal or gastrourinary tract and occurs in patients who have malignancy or are immunocompromised. Clostridium perfringens septicemia is usually fatal without early identification, source control, and antibiotics. Case. We present a case of a 65-year-old female with Clostridium perfringens sept...

clostridium perfringens is an important pathogen that provokes numerous different diseases. this bacterium is classified into five various types, each of which capable of causing a distinct disease. there are various methods for the bacterial identification, many are labor-intensive, time-consuming, expensive and also show low sensitivity and specificity. the aim of this research was to identif...

PURPOSE To investigate the genetic diversity of toxigenic Clostridium strains isolated from soil, water, meat and its associated polluted sites of Southern India. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 27 identified isolates of six different toxigenic clostridial species including C. bifermentans , C. botulinum , C. chauvoei , C. ramosum , C. tetani and C. novyi were isolated and characterized by c...

Nishida, Shoki (Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, Japan), and Gizo Nakagawara. Relationship between toxigenicity and sporulating potency of Clostridium novyi. J. Bacteriol. 89:993-995. 1965.-The less toxigenic the strains, the stronger was the sporulating potency of Clostridium novyi strains isolated. This was confirmed by investigation of the toxigenicity of substrains of C. novyi 140 possessing ...

Here, we report the genome sequence of a rare bivalent strain of Clostridium botulinum, A2B3 87. The strain was isolated from a foodborne botulism case that occurred in Italy in 1995. The case was characterized by rapid evolution of the illness and failure of conventional treatments.

Low-level vancomycin resistance was observed for 28 clinical Clostridium innocuum isolates and C. innocuum NCIB 10674, whereas teicoplanin was active. DNA from three clinical isolates and the type strain could not be amplified by PCR with primers specific for the genes vanA, vanB, and vanC, suggesting that C. innocuum is intrinsically resistant to vancomycin.

In a study to identify the clostridial species associated with sporadic diarrhoea in children aged 5 years and below, clostridia species were isolated from 57 (3%) of 1761 diarrhoeic faecal samples studied. Fifty-one of the clostridial isolates were identified as Clostridium perfringens while the other six isolates were identified as C. bifermentans. Forthy-seven were C. perfringens type A, 4 w...
