We define and study a quantale-valued Wijsman structure on the hyperspace of all non-empty closed sets of a quantale-valued metric space. We show its admissibility and that the metrical coreflection coincides with the quantale-valued Hausdorff metric and that, for a metric space, the topological coreflection coincides with the classical Wijsman topology. We further define an index of compactnes...
Formal topology is today an established topic in the development of constructive, that is intuitionistic and predicative, mathematics. Many classical results of general topology have been already brought into the realm of constructive mathematics by using formal topology and also new light on basic topological notions was gained with this approach which allows distinction which are not sensible...
We give a cohomological characterization of semiample line bundles. The result is a common generalization of the Fujita-Zariski Theorem on semiampleness and the Grothendieck-Serre criterion for ampleness. As an application of the Fujita-Zariski Theorem we characterize contractible curves in 1-dimensional families.
The role of topology in elementary quantum physics is discussed in detail. It is argued that attributes of classical spatial topology emerge from properties of state vectors with suitably smooth time evolution. Equivalently, they emerge from considerations on the domain of the quantum Hamiltonian, this domain being often specified by boundary conditions in elementary quantum physics. Several ex...
Let G be a semi-simple Lie group and Γ < G be a lattice. This paper is motivated by the attempt to understand the infinite index subgroup structure of Γ . In particular, to understand the possibilities for infinite index, finitely generated, freely indecomposable, Zariski dense subgroups of Γ . The study of Zariski dense subgroups of semi-simple Lie groups has a long and rich history. Some high...
In this paper, the authors study when the closure (in the Zariski topology) of orbits of representations of quivers of type A are rationally smooth. This is done by considering the corresponding quantized enveloping algebra U and studying the action of the bar involution on PBW bases. Using Ringel’s Hall algebra approach to quantized enveloping algebras and also AuslanderReiten quivers, we can ...
