Rangelands are characterized by more arid climates than forested regions; therefore, establishing fire histories using traditional methods (e.g. fire-scars from trees or charcoal in lake sediments) is problematic. This study uses radiocarbon dating of charcoal preserved in alluvial fans and stream deposits to reconstruct a record of fire and geomorphic response in rangelands of southwestern Ida...

In patients with severe theophylline toxicity charcoal haemoperfusion is the recommended method for rapid reduction of serum theophylline levels. However, access to this technique is limited in most hospitals. This case report shows that continuous venovenous haemofiltration, a technique available in most hospitals, is an effective alternative to charcoal haemoperfusion.

s: Carbamazepine (CBZ) intoxication can be associated with severe toxicity. Highly protein-bounded, CBZ is not removed efficiently through conventional hemodialysis. we observed that serum CBZ level was decreased minimally by albumin-enhanced CVVHDF with low dialysate flow. Therefore, albumin-enhanced CVVHDF with high dialysate flow should be considered in severe CBZ intoxication, if hemoperfus...

Radiocarbon age determinations of wood charcoal are commonly used to date past forest fire events, even though such ages should be greater than the fire event due to the age of the wood at the time of burning. The difference in the 14C-derived age of charcoal and the time-since-fire (the “inbuilt age”) may be considerable in some vegetation types and thus must be estimated before interpreting f...

Charcoal is found in water, soil, and sediment where it may act as a sorbent of organic pollutants. The sorption of organic compounds to natural solids often shows hysteresis. The purpose of this study was to determine the source of pronounced hysteresis that we found in the sorption of a hydrophobic compound (benzene) in water to a maple-wood charcoal prepared by oxygen-limited pyrolysis at 67...

Nile tilapia is a freshwater fish that widely cultivated in Indonesia. During its development, aquaculture has constraints such as low growth rates. Therefore, it necessary to add feed additive the form of charcoal. Charcoal an adsorbent high absorption so addition charcoal can increase nutrients tilapia. A 45-days trial was conducted determine percentage triggerfish bone (Abalistes stellaris) ...

Charcoal rot of sorghum causedby the fungus ~acrophorfdna phaseolina is a root andstalk rot disease of great destructive potential in most sorghum-growing regions. Improved, highyielding cultivars under good management tend to be very susceptible to the disease. M. phaseolina is a common soilborne, nonaggressive, and plurivorous pathogen that attacks plants whose vigor has been reduced by unfav...
