When considering plasticity, the central nervous system can be viewed as a building block house. After damage, building components might be lost or loosened and may be rearranged by renovation, analogous to neuroplasticity that occurs after central nervous system injury. In both scenarios, the location and severity of damage will determine the efficacy of renovation/rehabilitation and thus the ...

Proteoglycans are complex molecules composed of long, unbranched sugar chains attached to a protein core. In the mammalian central nervous system, they are a major component of the extracellular matrix and of the cellular surface. After a central nervous system injury, their expression in the lesion area changes strongly and contributes to the inhibition of axon regrowth and brain repair.

Introduction: The effects of injuries in peripheral nervous system returns to the cell body of neurons in central nervous system in a retrograde manner which leads to brain and spinal degeneration. It is probable that Achillea biebersteinii might prevent the injury progress. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of alcholic extract of Achillea biebersteinii le...

abstract objective : the policy makers and social managers need some criteria for building up the appropriate health status of the community and observe the equity and equality on it. they have to know the burden of diseases as a main determining factor for decision making, planning and programming. disability adjusted life years (dalys) is a criteria which shows the wasted life time due to ear...

myelodysplastic syndromes (mds) are a group of hematological disorders ranging from chronic refractory anemia to leukemia. there are some reports about association of mds with autoimmune disorders and vasculitis. in this study we describe a patient with mds and vasculitis presenting with central nervous system (cns) involvement. a clinical response to immunosuppressive therapy was also observed...

Central nervous system tumors are relatively common in the United States, with more than 40,000 cases annually. Although more than half of these tumors are benign, they can cause substantial morbidity. Malignant primary brain tumors are the leading cause of death from solid tumors in children and the third leading cause of death from cancer in adolescents and adults aged 15 to 34 years. Common ...

Lipoprotein and cholesterol metabolism in the brain involves metabolic pathways that are regulated independently of those in the peripheral circulation and tissues. The blood–brain barrier (BBB) restricts plasma lipids, including cholesterol and plasma lipoproteins, from entering or leaving the central nervous system (CNS). In the CNS, cholesterol is synthesized by astrocytes, oligodendrocytes,...

Tuberculosis is a formidable disease worldwide because of its highly infectious nature and propensity for latency. The increasing prevalence of tuberculosis in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals in recent years makes this disease a topic of universal concern. The disease has insidious onset and can affect virtually any organ system in the body, including the central nervous ...
