Childhood acellular pertussis vaccines were licensed and implemented in the US in the 1990s following an effort to improve on the safety profile of whole-cell vaccines. However, waning of immunity from acellular vaccines may be driving the recent resurgence of pertussis, raising the need to consider new prevention strategies.

measles has been a major cause of illness and death in children and vaccination against the disease is part of the who global immunization program. a suitable vaccine should create maximum immune response against the pathogen and must be safe for the user. thus, after production, vaccines must be analyzed and controlled by the producer and confirm by relevant governmental organizations. the foo...

Advances in basic immunology over the past decade have changed the scope and application of cancer vaccines. Perhaps the most important advance is the demonstration that human tumors are immunogenic and the identification of tumor-specific antigens. In fact, dozens of immunogenic proteins have been identified in patients with cancer using high throughput technologies. More importantly, we have ...

Accumulating research suggests that heparanase may be a universal tumor-associated antigen (TAA). Several heparanase T-cell epitopes from humans and mice have already been identified. However, because of low immunogenicity, polypeptide vaccines usually have difficulty inducing effective antitumor immune responses in vivo. In this study, to increase the immunogenicity of polypeptide vaccines, we...

Adult rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulata) were vaccinated with four inactivated rabies vaccines, including two cell culture vaccines, one zonal purified cell culture vaccine, and a 10% extracted duck embryo vaccine. The vaccines were potency tested by both National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Habel methods and passed one or both tests. However, a vaccine having acceptable potency by one method fr...
