A circularly polarized (CP) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed. A slot split ring (SSR) etched on the top metal surface of an SIW resonator is employed to generate the right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) wave. The proposed antenna is excited directly by a coaxial probe with a proper distance from the symmetric axis of the SSR resonator. A prototype ...

An active photonic crystal ~PC! based on the modulation of a one-dimensional cavity resonator by electrically-generated surface acoustic waves is described. The high nonthermal population of surface modes combined with the enhanced Brillouin scattering in the cavity increases the intensity of the scattered light to values comparable to the excitation intensity. This process is employed to switc...

We report on optical properties of Fabry-Pérot (FP) resonator based on Si-air one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D PC) with coupled triple-cavity modes (or defects). These defects obtained by infiltration of the air-cavity with the filler of tunable refractive index. The coupled FP resonators design is CMOS compatible and has potential for application in tuning an individual transmission bands ...

Objectives and Methodology: A critical-mass research effort will explore and advance theoretical understanding of the causal agents, coupling, scale -interactions, and particle kinetics of magnetospheric and ionospheric variability in the ultra-low-frequency regime (from less than 1 mHz up to 1 Hz). Magnetotail oscillations (periods of 10-60 min), magnetospheric boundary and dayside merging pul...

On the basis of the unified theory of coherence and polarization, we investigate the behavior of the state of polarization of a stochastic electromagnetic beam in a Gaussian cavity. Formulations both in terms of Stokes parameters and in terms of polarization ellipse are given. We show that the state of polarization stabilizes, except in the case of a lossless cavity, after several passages betw...

The grating thickness limit lFP between the Raman–Nath and the Bragg diffraction regimes is calculated for an index grating placed in an asymmetric Fabry–Perot resonator with a totally reflecting back mirror and compared with that which was obtained for the same grating with no cavity lM . Owing to the increase of the effective interaction length inside the Fabry–Perot cavity, the stronger the ...

We highlight two important aspects related to a mathematical modeling of pulsed fiber lasers with long and ultra-long ring cavity -impact of an initial noise and a cavity length on generation of single optical pulses. Using as an example a simple scalar model of a ring fiber laser that describes the radiation build-up from noise and the following intra-cavity pulse dynamics during a round trip ...

We show that a low-finesse cavity can be efficient for detecting neutral atoms. The low finesse can be compensated for by decreasing the mode waist of the cavity. We have used a near-concentric resonator with a beam waist of 12 microm and a finesse of only 1100 to detect magnetically guided Rb atoms with a detection sensitivity of 0.1 atom in the mode volume. For future experiments on single-at...

We report on an ultralow-threshold Raman laser based on a CaF2 whispering-gallery-mode resonator. The laser is demonstrated to have a conversion efficiency above 60%. The observed low lasing threshold is made possible by the ultrahigh optical quality factor of the cavity, which is on the order of Q=1010. The laser is fibercompatible and is fabricated with a very simple technique. We also demons...
