nano fillers are part of new studies to enhance various properties of fluids and solids. for example, adding nanoparticles as an enforcement in nanocomposites or as an additive to improve thermal or electrical properties in nano-fluids are of extreme importance in science and industry. there are numerous methods to uniformly disperse nanoparticles in fluid and solid phase. one of the well-used ...

The intrinsic low conductivity of sulfur which leads to a low performance at a high current rate is one of the most limiting factors for the commercialization of lithium-sulfur battery. Here, we present an easy and convenient method to synthesize a mono-dispersed hollow carbon sphere with a thin graphitic wall which can be utilized as a support with a good electrical conductivity for the prepar...

The current study aims to investigate the effect of fillers with different geometries and sizes on the interfacial shear properties of PA6 composites with de-sized carbon fiber. The fillers which have been investigated are namely; nano-layer silicates (nanoclay), sub-micro aluminum titanium (ALTi) particles, and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT). By means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XP...

Reaction of [AuCl(PPh(3))] with the zwitterion S(2)CNC(4)H(8)NH(2) yields [(Ph(3)P)Au(S(2)CNC(4)H(8)NH(2))]BF(4). Treatment of this species with NEt(3) and CS(2) followed by [AuCl(PPh(3))] leads to [{(Ph(3)P)Au}(2)(S(2)CNC(4)H(8)NCS(2))], which can also be obtained directly from [AuCl(PPh(3))] and KS(2)CNC(4)H(8)NCS(2)K. A heterobimetallic variant, [(dppm)(2)Ru(S(2)CNC(4)H(8)NCS(2))Au(PPh(3))](...

We propose a new algorithm to detect patches of free-form surfaces that can be well approximated by envelopes of a rotational cone under a rigid body motion. These conical envelopes are a preferable choice from the manufacturing point of view as they are, by-definition, manufacturable by computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining using the efficient flank (peripheral) method with standard ...

Although high carbon martensitic steels are well known for their industrial utility in high abrasion and extreme operating environments, due to their hardness and strength, the compressive stability of their retained austenite, and the implications for the steels' performance and potential uses, is not well understood. This article describes the first investigation at both the macro and nano sc...

A simple approach to prepare carbon quantum dots is presented in this communication by laser rapid passivation of nano carbon particles in ordinary organic solvent. The as-prepared carbon dots exhibited visible, tunable and stable photoluminescence (PL). XPS analysis showed that the increased oxygen concentration might be concerned with the origin of PL.

This study demonstrated the potential of simultaneously recovering cellulosic solid residues (CSR) and producing cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) by strong sulfuric acid hydrolysis to minimize cellulose loss to near zero. A set of slightly milder acid hydrolysis conditions than that considered as "optimal" were used to significantly minimize the degradation of cellulose into soluble sugars that ca...

Herein, porous nano-silicon has been synthesized via a highly scalable heat scavenger-assisted magnesiothermic reduction of beach sand. This environmentally benign, highly abundant, and low cost SiO₂ source allows for production of nano-silicon at the industry level with excellent electrochemical performance as an anode material for Li-ion batteries. The addition of NaCl, as an effective heat s...
