Carbapenems, frequently used for the treatment of infections caused by Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) are being reported with increased resistance rate. Colistin other antibiotics has emerged as a saviour but inappropriate reporting colistin susceptibility is serious clinical concern. To detect antimicrobial GNB isolates obtained from blood samples, further, Minimum Inhi...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of ertapenem use in Pseudomonas aeruginosa carbapenem resistance, taking into account the volume of antimicrobial consumption, the consumption by the entire hospital of alcohol-based antiseptic hand rub, and the density rate of invasive practices. DESIGN Before-and-after trial. SETTING A tertiary care university hospital in southern Brazil. METHODS Ertapen...
Wound infection associated with carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in burn patients is a growing problem. One of the main mechanisms of resistance to carbapenem antibiotics is the ability of P. aeruginosa to produce carbapenemase enzymes. Klebsiella pneumonia carbapemenase (KPC) is an important type of carbapenemase which can hydrolyze carbapenem antibiotics. The Modified Hodge Test (M...
Antibiotic Susceptibility Profile of Clinical Isolate of Carbapenem-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Background and Objectives: Carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are among the top tier of list antibiotic-resistant priority pathogens that pose greatest threat to human health. In recent years, rate carbapenem resistance in aeruginosa has increased worldwide become great concern since it significantly restricts therapeutic options for patients. Therefore this study was undertaken deter...
Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae strains have been increasingly reported worldwide, and there is emergence of carbapenem resistance among them. Here, we report the genome sequences of three carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent K. pneumoniae isolates isolated from bacteremic patients at a tertiary-care center in South India.
We report the failure of the automated MicroScan WalkAway system to detect carbapenem heteroresistance in Enterobacter aerogenes. Carbapenem resistance has become an increasing concern in recent years, and robust surveillance is required to prevent dissemination of resistant strains. Reliance on automated systems may delay the detection of emerging resistance.
A new CHROMagar KPC medium was compared to MacConkey agar with carbapenem discs and PCR for the bla(KPC) gene for rapid detection of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae. The sensitivity and specificity relative to PCR were 100% and 98.4%, respectively, for CHROMagar KPC and 92.7% and 95.9%, respectively, for MacConkey agar.
