Free flow electrophoresis (FFE) is a fractionation method, based on isoelectric focusing (IEF). We validate the reproducibility of the method and show that it can be applied by biobanks in order to fractionate fluid biospecimens efficiently and reproducibly and to facilitate downstream proteomic applications. We also propose a simple method allowing researchers to assess the reproducibility of ...

We have developed two assays for complete analysis of hemoglobins (Hbs) in the field of hemoglobinopathies: a high-performance cation-exchange liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay on the weak cation-exchanger Poly Cat A and a two-step capillary isoelectric focusing (CIEF) assay on the neutral-coated capillary from Beckman in a narrow pH gradient. The resolution was satisfactory for both HPLC and ...

Isoelectric focusing on ultrathin polyacrylamide foils, coupled with isoenzymatic analysis using five different enzymes, was used to characterize blood-forms of T.b. brucei, T.b. rhodesiense and T.b. gambiense and procyclic forms of T.b. brucei and T.b. rhodesiense. The protein concentrations in the lysates were quantified. Qualitative as well as quantitative differences were found.

Hemoglobinopathies are most common inherited disorders in the world; approximately 7 percent of the worldwide population and 5-6 percent of population of Iran are carriers. The hemoglobin disorders inherit as autosomal recessive and are very common in the Mediterranean area and much of the Asia and Africa. The control of this inherited disorders need to genetic counseling and accurate screening...

We have developed an acrylic microfluidic device that sequentially couples liquid-phase isoelectric focusing (IEF) and free solution capillary electrophoresis (CE). Rapid separation (<1 min) and preconcentration (73x) of species were achieved in the initial IEF dimension. Using full-field fluorescence imaging, we observed nondispersive mobilization velocities on the order of 20 microm/s during ...

BACKGROUND Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) are usually diagnosed by isoelectric focusing (IEF) of serum transferrin (Tf). The aim of this study was to evaluate capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) as a diagnostic alternative to IEF. METHODS We performed 792 CZE analyses of Tf, using the CEofix(TM)-CDT (carbohydrate-deficient transferrin) assay. Peak identification was based on rel...

The paper presents a novel on-line transient moving chemical reaction boundary method (tMCRBM) for simply but efficiently stacking ionizable analytes in high-salt matrix in capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). The powerful function and stability of the tMCRBM are elucidated with the ionizable test analytes of L-phenylalanine (Phe) and L-tryptophan (Trp) in the matrix with 85.6-165.6 mM sodium ...
