[equation--see text] The N-arylation of indoles, including a variety of substituted ones, has been carried out using bulky, electron-rich phosphines as the supporting ligand in combination with Pd(2)(dba)(3). Using this catalyst system, the efficient coupling of indole and a variety of substituted indoles with aryl iodides, bromides, chlorides, and triflates can be achieved.

To date, examples of α-arylation of carboxylic acids remain scarce. Using a deprotonative cross-coupling process (DCCP), a method for palladium-catalyzed γ-arylation of aryl acetic acids with aryl halides has been developed. This protocol is applicable to a wide range of aryl bromides and chlorides. A procedure for the palladium-catalyzed α-arylation of styryl acetic acids is also described.

A Ni/photoredox dual catalytic cross-coupling is disclosed in which a diverse range of (hetero)aryl bromides are used as electrophiles, with 1,4-dihydropyridines serving as precursors to Csp3-centered alkyl radical coupling partners. The reported method is characterized by its extremely mild reaction conditions, enabling access to underexplored cores.

2-Bromo-5-pyridylboronic acid 2a, 2-chloro-5-pyridylboronic acid 2b, 2-methoxy-5-pyridylboronic acid 2c, and 5-chloro-2-methoxy-4-pyridylboronic acid 4 have been synthesized and shown to undergo palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with heteroaryl bromides to yield novel heteroarylpyridine derivatives. The X-ray crystal structures of 2a and 2b have been obtained.

A fast and efficient nickel-catalysed iodination reaction of aryl and heteroaryl bromides has been developed. The transformation was found to be general for a wide range of substrates and was used for the synthesis of iodo-PK11195, an imaging agent of Alzheimer's disease and iniparib, a compound used in the treatment of breast cancer.

A new fluorous PCP pincer ligand has been coordinated to Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II). The air stable palladium complex, which promotes Heck reactions between methyl acrylate and either aryl bromides or iodides, can be recovered intact by fluorous solid-phase extraction and was reused four times in the Heck reaction between methyl acrylate and 4-bromoacetophenone without loss in catalytic activity.

The multicomponent synthesis of α,β-disubstituted N-sulfonyl β-amino esters is described. It involves a zinc-mediated, cobalt-catalyzed three-component reaction between sulfonylimines, acrylates and organic bromides. A possible mechanism is proposed, emphasizing the intermediate formation of an organocobalt as the initiator of a Mannich-like process.

The trichlorophenyl,- dichlorodiphenyl,- and chlorotriphenylgermanes undergo Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings with aryl bromides and iodides in the presence of TBAF in toluene with addition of the measured amount of water. One chloride ligand on the Ge center allows efficient activation by fluoride to promote transfer of one, two, or three phenyl groups from the organogermane precursors.

Conditions for an efficient ligand-, copper-, and amine-free palladium-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction of aryl iodides and bromides with terminal alkynes have been developed. Critical to the success of this new protocol is the use of tetrabutylammonium acetate as the base. Noteworthy features of this method are room-temperature conditions and the tolerance of a broad range of functional groups i...

An efficient method for the synthesis of aryl and heteroaryl chlorides is described. The reactions of aryl and heteroaryl bromides with tetramethylammonium chloride proceeded smoothly in the presence of a copper catalyst under mild reaction conditions to produce the corresponding chlorides in satisfactory to excellent yields.
