Gracilibacillus boraciitolerans JCM 21714(T) has been characterized as a highly boron-tolerant and moderately halotolerant bacterium. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this strain. The genome sequence facilitates an understanding of the biochemical functions of boron and provides a base to identify the gene(s) involved in the boron tolerance mechanism of the strain.

to study the effects of different amounts of sulphur and boron fertilizers on grain yield and grain quality of bread wheat cultivar pishtaz, an experiment was conduncted in karaj during two cropping seasons 2001-2003. three levels of sulphur (s0= 0, s1=250 and s2= 500 kgha-1) and three levels of boron (b0= 0, b1= 20 and b2= 40 kgha-1) were different treatments of the experiment arranged in rcbd...

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is an effective clinical method in cancer treatment based on fission reactions and nuclear capturing. In this method, use of the best boron-containing agents for boron therapy and boron delivery agent for transfer to the infectious site are the key points for  efficienct treatment. Our research indicated that calcium fructoborate(CF) was the best compound as...

Boron (B) is a non-metal micronutrient which is essential for plants growth and development. Formation of boron complex with cell wall matrix and phenolic compounds is a definite influence of boron in physiological process. It has been suggested that B-toxicity and deficiency may induce excess production of reactive oxygen species thereby promote defense responses by antioxidant enzymes or non-...

We have imaged boron nitride nanotubes with atomic scale resolution using scanning tunneling microscopy. While some nanotubes show the expected triangular lattice pattern, the majority of the nanotubes show unusual stripe patterns which break the underlying symmetry of the boron nitride lattice. We identify the origin of the symmetry breaking and demonstrate that conventional STM imaging analys...

Young tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller, cultivar Rutgers) grown in solution culture at 27 degrees at 2 light intensities with adequate boron (0.1 mg/l) and treated with these 2 intensities in the absence of adequate boron developed root boron deficiency symptoms. The typical deficiency symptoms of decreased root elongation, increased depth of brown color and decreased RNA content o...

Boron may be an essential nutrient for animals and humans. Dietary boron influences the activity of many metabolic enzymes, as well as the metabolism of steroid hormones and several micronutrients, including calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D. Boron supplementation in rats and chicks has been shown to increase bone strength. Boron may also play a role in improving arthritis, plasma lipid profile...

The use of boron tri-bromide as a source precursor for low energy boron implantation is studied in this work. Details of gas delivery system, beam purity and running performance have been investigated for a 75keV molecular implant to give an equivalent boron energy of 5keV. The behavior of the Br during thermal processing is compared to that of F derived from a BF2 implant and is seen to be les...

Reaction of the normal isomer of [B20H18]2- and the protected thiol anion, [SC(O)OC(CH3)3]-, produces an unexpected isomer of [B20H17SC(O)OC(CH3)3]4- directly and in good yield. The isomer produced under mild conditions is characterized by an apical-apical boron atom intercage connection as well as the location of the thiol substituent on an equatorial belt adjacent to the terminal boron apex. ...

Boron complexes of [14]triphyrins(2.1.1) were prepared from free-base [14]triphyrins(2.1.1) with phenylboron dichloride. The absorption spectrum of the meso-free β-alkyl-triphyrin boron complex in CH2Cl2 showed a broad weak band at around 640 nm assigned to transition from B-phenyl to the triphyrin, while that of the meso-aryl benzotriphyrin boron complex showed only Soret and Q bands.
