Subarticular cystic lesions often develop during the course of rheumatoid arthritis. They are considered to be one of the typical manifestations of the disease (Cruickshank, Macleod and Shearer 1954). Generally several small lesions are observed, showing a typical radiological and pathological picture (Steven 1947; Kersley, Ross, Fowles and Johnson 1964; Gardner 1965). Single giant bone cysts, ...
Odontogenic tumors and cysts, arising in the jawbones, grow by resorption and destruction of the jawbones. However, mechanisms underlying bone resorption by odontogenic tumors/cysts remain unclear. Odontogenic tumors/cysts comprise odontogenic epithelial cells and stromal fibroblasts, which originate from the developing tooth germ. It has been demonstrated that odontogenic epithelial cells of t...
Five cases of nontraumatic intradiploic arachnoid cysts in elderly patients are reported. All cysts were located in the occipital bone and appeared as well-demarcated radiolucent lesions. The cysts were multiple in three cases. Presenting symptoms included headache or dizziness, but most lesions were asymptomatic and found incidentally. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign osteolytic lesion that is fast-growing, expansile, and locally destructive. The present case is of a young girl with facial asymmetry, which had become accentuated during the previous months. A conservative treatment was performed to reduce morbidity and affectation of the lower dental nerve.
This is a case report of aneurysmal bone cyst of the ethmoid. It is a benign process but with high capacity of local damage. Because of its resemblance with other expansive pathologies of the nasal cavity, it needs to be taken into account to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
OBJECTIVES To improve the interpretation of simple bone cyst (SBC) lesions of the jaw. METHODS A comparative study of SBC lesions of the jaw and extracranial bones was performed through a literature survey. RESULTS In extracranial SBC, the cavities were always filled with fluid, and a high recurrence rate was shown through extensive research. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) was included in the d...
