An approach for an ontology based automotive off-board diagnostic system is presented. This approach enables the realization of knowledge-based diagnostic concepts and facilitates the integration of automotive data and processes. On basis of the diagnostic framework GT-DART two knowledge based applications are developed: A workshop application and an authoring simulation application.
Development cycles are getting shorter and Continuous Integration and Delivery are being established in the automotive industry. We give an overview of the peculiarities in an automotive deployment pipeline, introduce technologies used and analyze Tesla’s deliveries as a state-of-the-art showcase.
LCDs are fast becoming a standard part of the automotive interior. As demand for LCD technology increases, so do methodologies for controlling and creating the displayed graphical content. Traditionally, character-based LCDs and vacuum florescent (VF) displays have been used for low-cost automotive infotainment applications, but low-cost color thin film transistors (TFTs) quickly are becoming a...
This paper describes the primary and secondary driving task together with Human Machine Interface (HMI) trends and issues which are driving automotive user interface designers to consider hand gesture recognition as a realistic alternative for user controls. A number of hand gesture recognition technologies and applications for Human Vehicle Interaction (HVI) are also discussed including a summ...
This study assesses a possible independent effect of sleep-related breathing disorders on traffic accidents in long-haul commercial truck drivers. The study design included integrated analysis of recordings of sleep-related breathing disorders, self-reported automotive and company-recorded automotive accidents. A cross-sectional population of 90 commercial long-haul truck drivers 20-64 years of...
The aim of this paper is to guide the next steps of a PhD thesis through a structured review of the state of the art and implementation of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA), and to identify challenges and potentials for its adoption at an automotive company. First, the structured literature review was conducted on LCSA to screen the current methodological and practical implementations...
Modern automotive Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are increasingly adopting wireless communications for Intra-Vehicular, Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) protocols as a promising solution for challenges such as the wire harnessing problem, collision detection, and collision avoidance, traffic control, and environmental hazards. Regrettably, this new trend results in new...
In industrial plants and motor vehicles basic environmental pollutants and trained human factors play a significant role for the reduction of pollution. This paper briefly describes the effect of chemical science, for the various stages used in the automotive technology training, in the Vocational Higher School in Turkish Higher Education System. The methodology used to improve the learning pro...
In the automotive domain, there is currently no formal requirement to produce an explicit safety case. Instead the implicit safety case for a vehicle is comprised of compliance with extensive national and international regulation and standards. With the imminent introduction of the automotive functional safety standard ISO 26262, the production of a functional safety case is now a requirement f...
In the automotive industry the Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) is increasingly seen as the sustainable alternative to internal combustion engine (ICE)-based vehicles. The growing popularity of FC technology in the automotive industry provides an interesting case. Where one would expect the mature automotive industry to dismiss FC technology in order not to jeopardise its ICE technology, several billion...
