Phacomatosis pigmentovascularis is a rare, congenital condition characterized by a combination of cutaneous melanocytic lesions and vascular malformation. We discuss an entirely unique case of Phacomatosis pigmentovascularis with nevus of Ota, extensive Mongolian spot, nevus flammeus, nevus anemicus and cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita, which may represent a heretofore undescribed vari...
Several dermatoses have been reported in association with Becker's nevus. Eczematous dermatitis associated with Becker's nevus is extremely rare, described in only two previous case reports. We report a case of 21-year-old male with recurrent eczema lesions which were always localized within the underlying Becker's nevus lesion. This case may be explained as a Wolf's isotopic response-like phen...
Reed nevus or pigmented spindle-cell nevus may mimic cutaneous melanoma; however, its dermoscopic and histopathological characteristics are different. This case report describes three patients with distinct clinical, dermoscopic and histopathological presentations, which were correlated to enable a differential diagnosis to be made between melanoma and Spitz nevus.
BACKGROUND The negative pigment network (NPN) is seen as a negative of the pigmented network and it is purported to be a melanoma-specific structure. OBJECTIVES We sought to assess the frequency, sensitivity, specificity, and odds ratios (ORs) of NPN between melanoma cases and a group of control lesions. METHODS Digitalized images of skin lesions from 679 patients with histopathological dia...
BACKGROUND Nevi with cytologic characteristics of Spitz nevus and architectural features of Clark's/dysplastic nevus are not well recognized in the literature. METHODS Twenty-seven nevi with characteristics of Spitz nevus and Clark's/dysplastic nevus are reviewed. RESULTS The patients' mean age was 33 years, and 17/27(63%) patients were female. Lesions were most frequent on the trunk and lo...
Cutaneous symptoms in some patients with clinical picture of Schimmelpenning-Feuerstein-Mims syndrome can include a speckled lentiginous nevus, also known as nevus spilus. Recent investigations show that somatic heterozygous HRAS mutations are present in the sebaceous and speckled lentiginous nevus tissues of patients with combination of two nevi.
We present a case of a clonal nevus arising from a previously banal melanocytic nevus over a 15-month period on the central back of a 30-year-old woman in a primary care skin cancer practice in Melbourne, Australia. Clinical, dermatoscopic and dermatopathologic images are presented. A search of the literature has discovered no previously published dermatoscopy images of an evolving clonal nevus.
PURPOSE To describe 3 cases of primary orbital melanoma associated with either known or subsequently discovered cellular blue nevus. METHODS The clinical records and surgical specimens of 3 patients who underwent orbital exenteration for primary orbital melanoma and who had a cellular blue nevus diagnosed before or after detection of the melanoma were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS All 3...
Apocrine cystomatosis, also called epitrichial sweat gland is a non-neoplastic condition characterised by multiple dilated cysts of origin. Histopathologically, these comprise two layers cells: an inner layer glandular epithelial cells and outer myoepithelial cells. A case apocrine cystomatosis was admitted to local hospital. The microscopic investigation revealed that some enlarged show...
