Background and Aims: Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most common type of congenital disability. Copy number variations (CNVs) have been found as one of the genetic etiology of non-syndromic CHD, and researchers have detected several pathogenic CNVs in patients with cardiac defects. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 70 patients with familial (20 patients) and sporadic (50 pati...

OBJECTIVE Patch closure of the subarterial ventricular septal defect requires suture placement at the pulmonary annulus. We aimed to identify whether patch closure of subarterial ventricular septal defect would affect the growth of pulmonary annulus in comparison with that of perimembranous ventricular septal defect. METHODS Of 361 patients who underwent patch closure of ventricular septal de...

An 85-year-old man with a high risk for open heart surgery underwent a percutaneous closure of an atrial septal defect that lacked adequate aortic and superior rims. To avoid the risk for erosion, a Figulla Flex II ASD occluder was selected for the procedure. Implantation was successful, and no complications were observed during the 6 months of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE To report initial findings from a selected group of patients with morphological variations of the atrial septal defect who underwent transcatheter closure with a second generation redesigned double umbrella device. PATIENTS Two patients with abnormal location of the oval fossa and partial deficiency of the septal rim, three patients with multiple defects, and two patients with a mul...

Double outlet right ventricle (DORV) is a complex group of abnormal ventriculoarterial connections where both the aorta and pulmonary artery rise from the right ventricle morphologically. It is a rare condition affecting 1-1.5% of patients with congenital heart disease. The patient's cardiac measurements were taken by two-dimensional echocardiography. The pathological findings of the defined ca...

Buxton, B. F., and Cooley, D. A. (1973). Thorax, 28, 521-525. Recurrent aortopulmonary artery fistula. The case report is presented of a patient who underwent successful repair of a recurrent fistula between the aorta and the pulmonary artery secondary to an atherosclerotic aneurysm of the ascending thoracic aorta. The fistula was situated between the proximal part of the ascending aorta and th...

Ventricular septal defect concurrent with left ventricular aneurysm is unusual in postinfarction patients. The complex anatomy is challenging for occluder deployment in transcatheter closure and associated with high risk of aneurysm perforation. We present a case of transcatheter closure of a large postinfarction ventricular septal defect with an Amplatzer septal occluder in a 71-year-old woman...

The interatrial septum has not been readily appreciated by M-mode echocardiography. Cross-sectional echocardiography has the capability of recording the shape and location of the interatrial septum. Real-time cross-sectional echograms using a mechanically oscillating transducer were obtained on 100 consecutive patients. Echocardiographic examination of the left atrium and aorta was obtained in ...

DOI: 10.5935/abc.20170157 Clinical data: Three months ago, there were retrosternal pain, fatigue and tachycardia (170 bpm) for atrial flutter reversed with amiodarone. Thoracic tomography revealed a giant aneurysm of the left coronary artery. Corrected atrial septal defect at 3 years of age. He has active life with moderate sport. Corrected cryptorchidism at 12 years of age with impairment of f...
