background in recent decades bacteriophages have been used as treating agents against some pathogens. also, bacteriophages could be considered as alternatives of antimicrobial agents in plant protection. objectives this study aimed to isolate a pathogen from potato (solanum tubersom) tubers (pseudomonas putida), and of its specific bacteriophage from soil and wastewater. materials and methods i...

Pseudomonas putida strain ND6 is an efficient naphthalene-degrading bacterium. The complete genome of strain ND6 was sequenced and annotated. The genes encoding the enzymes involved in catechol degradation by the ortho-cleavage pathway were found in the chromosomal sequence, which indicated that strain ND6 is able to metabolize naphthalene by the catechol meta- and ortho-cleavage pathways.

The survival of selected hygienically relevant bacterial species in activated carbon (AC) filters on a bench scale was investigated. The results revealed that after inoculation of the test strains the previously sterilized AC absorbed all bacteria (10(6) to 10(7)). After a period of 6 to 13 days without countable bacteria in the effluent, the numbers of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa,...

A collection of 50 indigenous meta-toluate tolerating bacteria isolated from oil-contaminated rhizosphere of Galega orientalis on selective medium was characterized and identified by classical and molecular methods. 16S rDNA partial sequencing showed the presence of five major lineages of the Bacteria domain. Gram-positive Rhodococcus, Bacillus and Arthrobacter and gram-negative Pseudomonas wer...

Objective The extensive pollution of natural ecosystems has occurred by organophosphorus pesticides, being used for improvement of crop production in agriculture. Biodegradation is interested in application of multifunctional bacteria containing genetical elements which specially degrade organophosphorus compounds. In this paper the detection of two bacteria species, Pseudomonas and Flavobacte...

Investigations were conducted to determine whether induction of PR-1a gene promoter was correlated with systemic resistance, induced by rhizobacteria, against wildfire disease of tobacco. Ten different strains of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), including the species Bacillus pumilus, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas fluorescens, P. putida, Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens, and Bukhold...

Degenerate PCR primers, UP-1 and UP-2r, for the amplification of DNA gyrase subunit B genes (gyrB) were designed by using consensus amino acid sequences of gyrases from Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas putida, and Bacillus subtilis. In addition to the degenerate sequences, these primers have sequences at the 5' end which allow direct sequencing of amplified PCR products. With these primers, DNA se...
