Abstract Integral thin shells made of high strength aluminum alloys are urgently needed in new generation transportation equipment. There challenges to overcoming the co-existing problems wrinkling and splitting by cold forming hot processes. An innovative technology ultra-low temperature has been invented for alloy phenomenon ‘dual enhancement effect’. That means plasticity hardening enhanced ...

Fibre metal laminates, hybrid composite materials built up from interlaced layers of thin metals and fibre reinforced adhesives, are future-proof used in the production passenger aircraft, yachts, sailplanes, racing cars, sports equipment. The most commercially available fibre–metal laminates carbon aluminium aramid glass laminates. This review emphasises developing technologies for forming met...

Purpose: In this paper the experimental equipment and design of the system for deformation and forming force measuring by single point incremental sheet metal forming are described. Beside this the analysis results of the impact of the wall angle, tool rotation, vertical step size, tool diameter and lubrication on the magnitude of forming force and plastic logarithmic strain are presented. Desi...

Single point incremental forming is used for rapid prototyping of sheet metal parts. This forming technology was applied to the fabrication of thin shell micropyramids of aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium foils. A single point tool used had a tip radius of 0.1 mm or 0.01 mm. An ultrasonic spindle with axial vibration was implemented for improving the shape accuracy of micropyramids formed...

In this paper, an automatic and quick evaluating method for the micro-hole size form accuracy with a computer-aided technique was proposed. A special ultrasonic microforming method, that is, micro-ultrasonic thin-sheet-metal forming using molten plastic as flexible punch (short Micro-USF), used to out micro-holes diameters of 500, 600, 700 ?m on copper sheet thickness 30 ?m. Using evaluation pr...

We demonstrate ink-jet printing as a viable method for large area fabrication of graphene devices. We produce a graphene-based ink by liquid phase exfoliation of graphite in N-Methylpyrrolidone. We use it to print thin-film transistors, with mobilities up to∼95cmVs, as well as transparent and conductive patterns, with∼80% transmittance and∼30kΩ/ sheet resistance. This paves the way to all-print...

Solutions of the nonlinear water wave equations under an ice sheet are computed using a boundary integral equation method. The ice sheet is modelled as a thin elastic plate and the fluid equations are nonlinear. Depending on the velocity of the moving disturbance generating the flow, different types of responses of the floating ice sheet are discussed.
