Bacterial infections may cause disease and death. Infants and children are often subject to bacterial infections. Antimicrobials kill bacteria protecting the infected patients andreducing the risk of morbidity and mortality caused by bacteria. The antibiotics may lose their antibacterial activity when they become resistant to a bacteria. The resistance to different antibiotics in a bacteria is ...

The pharmacokinetic properties of lenampicillin (KBT-1585), a new ampicillin ester, were investigated in 41 healthy volunteers. The maximum concentration of ampicillin in serum after oral administration of 400 mg of lenampicillin was 6.5 micrograms/ml at 0.70 h, and that after a equimolar dosage of ampicillin was 2.9 micrograms/ml at 0.87 h.

Our findings demonstrated that the results obtained for ampicillin may accurately predict the in vitro susceptibility to amoxicillin but not to imipenem and piperacillin among isolates of Enterococcus faecalis resistant to penicillin but susceptible to ampicillin, which have emerged recently, in contrast to penicillin- and ampicillin-susceptible isolates.

Alternative and modified therapeutic approaches are key elements in culminating antibiotic resistance. To this end, an experimental trial was conducted to determine the cytotoxicity antibacterial potential of composites magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles antibiotics stabilized sodium alginate gel against multi-drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from a houbara bustard. The characteri...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of intrapartum vaginal flushings with chlorhexidine compared with ampicillin in preventing group B streptococcus transmission to neonates. METHODS: This was a randomized controlled study, including singleton pregnancies delivering vaginally. Rupture of membranes, when present, must not have occurred more than 6 h previously. Women with any gestational comp...

The chromogenic cephalosporin nitrocefin was used to detect the presence of beta-lactamase in cerebrospinal fluid of patients suffering from ampicillin-resistant Haemophilus influenzae meningitis. Five samples of spinal fluid containing ampicillin-resistant isolates were studied, and all had beta-lactamase activity. When samples of spinal fluid containing 33 ampicillin-sensitive isolates and 23...

urinary tract infection (uti) is a neonatal life threatening infection which is usually treated with ampicillin plus an aminoglycoside or a third-generation cephalosporin. recently, growing number of escherchia coli species resistant to ampicillin and aminoglycosides have raised concerns regarding the necessity to change the empirical therapy. this motivates us to determine neonatal uti clinica...

This study examined the effects of a protein rich diet on coping neurotransmitter levels in orally administered ampicillin–induced neurotoxic rats compared with propionic acid (PA) models of autism. 40 young male western albino rats were divided into four groups. The first group served as control and received phosphate buffered saline orally; the second group serving as autistic model was...

The ampicillin-sulbactam combination was evaluated in vitro to determine the optimal susceptibility testing conditions among five combination ratios and four fixed concentrations of sulbactam. The organisms tested were markedly resistant to aminopenicillins and most other beta-lactams. The ratio of 2:1 is recommended to assure recognition of the ampicillin-sulbactam spectrum and minimize false-...

Intermittent administration of ampicillin alone has resulted in high failure rates in previously described animal models of enterococcal endocarditis. We developed a rat model of enterococcal endocarditis which permits comparison of continuous intravenous infusion of ampicillin with intramuscular therapy. Continuous low-dose ampicillin infusion (450 mg/kg [body weight] per day) was compared wit...
