Using in-situ X-ray diffraction we have studied the adsorption of CO onto Pt(111) in pure perchloric acid. The adsorption of CO at an applied electrode potential of 0.05 V (versus the reversible hydrogen electrode) causes expansion of the topmost Pt atomic layer by ~4% of the bulk lattice spacing. At this potential the adsorbed CO forms a compressed p(2×2) adlayer which fully covers the Pt surf...

A diverse collection of 14 metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) was screened for CO(2) capture from flue gas using a combined experimental and modeling approach. Adsorption measurements are reported for the screened MOFs at room temperature up to 1 bar. These data are used to validate a generalized strategy for molecular modeling of CO(2) and other small molecules in MOFs. MOFs possessing a high den...

With a density functional theory method, we studied computationally the size dependence of adsorption properties of metal nanoparticles for CO as a probe on Pd(n) clusters with n = 13-116 atoms. For large particles, the values slowly decrease with cluster size from the asymptotic value for an (ideal) infinite surface. For clusters of 13-25 atoms, starting well above the asymptotic value, the ad...

Zeolite Rho is able to successfully separate CO(2) from CH(4) with the highest selectivity ever observed on the basis of pore diameter and surface polarity. The adsorption of CO(2) provokes structural changes in the zeolite Rho.

The potential impact of heterogeneous chemistry on the abundance and distribution of HOx in the atmosphere of Mars has been assessed by combining observational data of dust and ice aerosol distributions with an updated photochemical model. Critical parameters include the altitude distributions of aerosols, and the surface loss coefficients (T) of riO2 on dust and ice in the lower atmosphere, an...

Two common waste materials, red mud and fly ash, were used to produce a new nano-hybrid adsorbent by heat treatment with alkali addition. The new zeolitic structure formation of the hybrid adsorbent was revealed using the BET surface area, XRD, and SEM analyses. This hybrid adsorbent was utilized to remove arsenic from synthetic and real waste waters by batch and column adsorption experiments. ...

ZIF-8, a prototypical zeolitic porous coordination polymer, prepared via the self-assembly of tetrahedral atoms (e.g. Zn and Co) and organic imidazolate linkers, presents large cavities which are interconnected by narrow windows that allow, in principle, molecular sieving. However, ZIF-8 shows flexibility due to the swing of the imidazolate linkers, which results in the adsorption of molecules ...
