Adenovirus is a common respiratory pathogen which causes a broad range of distinct clinical syndromes and has recently received attention for its potential for in vivo gene delivery. Although adenovirus respiratory tract infection (ARTI) results in dose-dependent, local inflammation, the pathogenesis of this remains unclear. We hypothesized that alveolar macrophages (AMphi) rapidly internalize ...

results of 50 patients, 20 were men and 30 women with mean age of 61.1 ± 16.9 years ranged between 22 and 85 years. all samples of pterygia had positive results for adenoviruses dna with polymerase chain reaction, but none of the negative control groups displayed adenoviruses. the pterygium group and the control groups were β-globin positive. direct sequencing of pcr products confirmed adenovir...

Maturation of adenovirus particles is markedly affected by proteolytic processing. The possibility for blocking the conversion of precursor structural core protein (preVII) into mature structure protein VII by officinal drugs -aminocaproic acid and ambenum has been demonstrated in Hep-2 cells infected with adenovirus. Proteolytic processing may be regarded as one of the targets for inhibiting a...

Background: The C-terminus of pVI activates the adenovirus proteinase. pVI escorts hexon into the nucleus. Results: pVI binds tightly to DNA independent of sequence, Kd = 46 nM. pVI binds tightly to hexon, Kd = 1.1 nM. Conclusion: DNA binding of pVI is first step in the activation of adenovirus proteinase. Significance: Links pVI, hexon, viral DNA and the adenovirus proteinase in virion maturat...

We have studied the in vivo replication properties of plasmids carrying deletion mutations within cloned adenovirus terminal sequences. Deletion mapping located the adenovirus DNA replication origin entirely within the first 67 bp of the adenovirus inverted terminal repeat. This region could be further subdivided into two functional domains: a minimal replication origin and an adjacent auxillar...

Adenoviruses are a common cause of viral eye disease in humans. Recently, new antiviral drugs have been developed, which possess promising anti-adenovirus activity. In order to test these drugs, an ocular model of adenovirus infection was developed in 10 Hollander rabbits following topical, intrastromal and subconjunctival inoculation with a standard laboratory serotype (Adenovirus type 5 from ...

This report describes a fatal case of cerebral edema caused by adenovirus in a previously healthy 18-month-old infant who developed skin rash, pulmonary congestion, and fever and who died 6 days later. Adenovirus hexon gene sequences were detected in brain tissue and brain tissue cultures. The virus was typed as adenovirus 5.

Adenovirus is an infectious viral agent that causes variety of clinical presentations such as respiratory disease, conjunctivitis, and gastroenteritis. Hepatitis, pancreatitis, myocarditis, encephalitis, and disseminated infection are primarily seen in immunocompromised patients. Rarely, adenovirus infection can present with pertussis-like syndrome. Described here is case of pertussis-like synd...

Twenty-eight of 56 infants in a neonatal intensive care unit had stools positive for adenovirus by the Sure-Vue adenovirus test. Virus cultures of conventionally processed and chloroform-extracted stool samples, as well as conventional and real-time PCR tests, were negative for adenovirus. The cause for the 50% false-positive rate with the antigen test was not determined.

The last two discovered adenoviral serotypes were adenovirus 50, which belongs to species B1, and adenovirus 51, which belongs to species D (2). As recently described, these two viruses were wrongly labeled vice versa in August 2000 (1). Unfortunately, these wrongly labeled preparations were sent to the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) in Manassas, VA, and the Centers for Disease Control...
