The Inverse Frobenius-Perron problem (IFPP) concerns the creation of discrete chaotic mappings with arbitrary invariant densities. In this note, we present a new and elegant solution to the IFPP, based on positive matrix theory. Our method allows chaotic maps with arbitrary piecewise-constant invariant densities, and with arbitrary mixing properties, to be synthesized.
We introduce a novel approach for separating and segmenting individual facades from streetside images. Our algorithm incorporates prior knowledge about arbitrarily shaped repetitive regions which are detected using intensity profile descriptors and a voting–based matcher. In the experiments we compare our approach to extended state–of–the–art matching approaches using more than 600 challenging ...
Designing hypermedia systems might be a complex task as soon as the number of chunks of information to organize is large. In the task of designing hypermedia systems, interactive dynamic maps can provide designers with a better understanding of the semantics of the underlying set of documents, thus providing assistance in the design process. In this paper we present topic maps and techniques fo...
In this paper we propose an ontological framework for tools facilitating creative writing and story reading. It is based on an ontology implemented as a topic map and employs linguistic analysis methods for discovering conceptual entities in the text.
In this paper, we consider the minimal entropy of two-qubit states transmitted through two uses of a noisy quantum channel, which is modeled by the action of a completely positive trace-preserving (or stochastic) map. We provide strong support for the conjecture that this minimal entropy is additive, namely that the minimum entropy can be achieved when product states are transmitted. Explicitly...
We edited, redrew, and evaluated four unpublished historical vegetation maps of the Western Pamirs (Tajikistan) by the Soviet geobotanist Okmir E. Agakhanjanz. These maps cover an area of 5,188 km2 and date from 1958 to 1960. The purpose of this article is to make the historic vegetation data available to the scientific community and thus preserve a hitherto non available and up to now neglecte...

Let T be a triangular ring. An additive map δ from T into itself is said to be Jordan derivable at an element Z ∈ T if δ(A)B +Aδ(B) + δ(B)A+Bδ(A) = δ(AB+BA) for any A,B ∈ T with AB + BA = Z. An element Z ∈ T is called a Jordan all-derivable point of T if every additive map Jordan derivable at Z is a Jordan derivation. In this paper, we show that some idempotents in T are Jordan all-derivable po...
Binary embedding transforms vectors in Euclidean space into the vertices of Hamming space such that Hamming distance between binary codes reflects a particular distance metric. In machine learning, the similarity metrics induced by Mercer kernels are frequently used, leading to the development of binary embedding with Mercer kernels (BE-MK) where the approximate nearest neighbor search is perfo...
