Three cases of progressive supranuclear palsy are reported in which In111-DTPA cisternography showed slow diffusion, ventricular reflux and failure of isotope clearance. The clinical diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy was confirmed histologically in two of these patients. The possible causes of the cisternographic changes and their relationship to the changes of CSF dynamics in progres...

Hypoglossal nerve palsy induces palsy in the ipsilateral lingual muscles, resulting in tongue deviation and articulation disorder. It is a rare condition that may stem from a variety of causes. Therefore, it is important to consider the possible causes of hypoglossal nerve palsy related to surgery or anesthesia, including intubation, the surgical positions, and mask ventilation during recovery.

Parental age and birth order were studied in 251 patients with cerebral palsy. No parental age or birth order effects were observed in spastic quadriplegia or diplegia, but a paternal age effect was detected in those with athetoid/dystonic cerebral palsy and congenital hemiplegia. These observations indicate that some cases of athetoid/dystonic or hemiplegic cerebral palsy might arise by fresh ...

Facial nerve palsy has been occasionally attributed to infectious agents, but Rickettsiae species have not been documented as causative agents. We report two adolescent girls with facial nerve palsy and serological evidence of R conorii infection. These cases indicate that rickettsioses should be included among the causes of facial nerve palsy, particularly in endemic areas.

Parenting a child with cerebral palsy is at least as challenging as parenting a child with typical development. Caregivers of children with cerebral palsy are strongly influenced by the needs of their children. Although the body of literature addressing parent stress in families with a child with cerebral palsy is not large, the growing evidence has been supplemented and illuminated by the work...

The time course of electrical reactions in this condition varied much from that after section of the facial nerve or after Bell's palsy. It was at least a week before denervation could be suspected in the latter conditions by electrodiagnostic methods. In post-traumatic delayed facial palsy we have demonstrated electrical reactions showing denervation at the time of palsy or even a few days bef...
