In the crystal structure of 1-methyl-3-allyl benzotriazolium iodide, C(10)H(12)N(3) (+)·I(-), centrosymmetric dimers of coplanar cations are π-stacked with an inter-planar distance of 3.453 (6) Å. The iodide anions are situated above and below the formally positive charged triazolium rings.

In the title compound, C(22)H(19)N(2) (+)·ClO(4) (-), the three pendant aromatic rings are twisted from the plane of the imidazolium ring by dihedral angles of 17.3 (2), 65.7 (2) and 3.4 (2)°. In the crystal structure, N-H⋯O and N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds link the ions, forming a ribbon-like structure along the a axis.

The three pendant aromatic rings are twisted from the plane of the imidazolium ring by dihedral angles of 31.69 (14)°, 31.09 (14)° and 34.77 (14)°. In the crystal structure, N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules, forming a chain parallel to the b axis.
