Strains homozygous at the amylase locus were derived from a polymorphic laboratory population of Drosophila melanogaster. The Amy4,6 strain has higher enzyme activity than Amy1 strain.-Maltose has the same nutritional value as starch.- The effect of starch in pure culture depends on the yeast level. At low yeast level increasing starch increases survival, at high yeast level increasing starch i...

production of extracellular amylase was demonstrated under conditions of high salinity in aerobically cultivated culture of a newly isolated moderately halophilic gram-positive coccus, designated strain f in basal medium containing peptone from meat, yeast extract, nacl (7% w/v) and starch. biochemical and physiological characterization along with 16s rrna sequence analysis placed f in the genu...

The proposal that yeast, and cells in general, contains redundant genes that enable cells to survive mutational change has been supported by experiments and a strong metaphor. The redundant gene proposal is analyzed, and it is noted that there are many problems with the redundant gene model. An alternative metaphor is suggested to explain the genetic composition of a yeast culture.

Green mold is one of the main diseases in citrus fruits caused by Penicillium digitatum . One managements that can be used to control this disease using yeasts as antagonistic agents. The objective study was evaluate ability yeast suppress P. siam ( Citrus nobilis Lour.). conducted a completely randomized design. treatments were application yeast, consisting Aureobasidium pullulans isolate Dmg ...

A feeding trial was conducted in graded Murrah buffaloes to study the influence of yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077 strain) supplementation on intake and nutrient utilization. 12 graded Murrah buffaloes with an average body weight of 465.4 ± 20.92 kg were randomly divided into two groups (Control and treatment) of 6 animals each. Animals in both the groups received a basal di...

The dimorphic fungal pathogen Histoplasma capsulatum causes respiratory and systemic disease. Within the mammalian host, pathogenic Histoplasma yeast infect, replicate within, and ultimately kill host phagocytes. Surprisingly, few factors have been identified that contribute to Histoplasma virulence. To address this deficiency, we have defined the constituents of the extracellular proteome usin...

Here, we describe a rapid, convenient, and quantitative β-galactosidase assay in liquid culture of recombinant yeast that expresses the estrogen receptor. This assay allows large-scale screening of chemicals (more than 600 samples/day) for the evaluation of their direct estrogenic potency and accurate determination of their EC50 with minimal manipulations. The assay, which is based on digestion...

The research was conducted to select the nitrogen sources and suitable light condition during Ganoderma lucidum submerged culture (isolated in Vietnam). results showed that organic is more than inorganic for growth synthesis of fungal polysaccharides. amounts incellular polysaccharide exopolysaccharide this strain highest when combined 7.5 g/L yeast extract 2.5 peptone. affected on size, shape ...

Identification of physiological and environmental factors that limit efficient growth of hyperthermophiles is important for practical application of these organisms to the production of useful enzymes or metabolites. During fed-batch cultivation of Sulfolobus solfataricus in medium containing L-glutamate, we observed formation of L-pyroglutamic acid (PGA). PGA formed spontaneously from L-glutam...

Despite rapid progress in characterizing the yeast metabolic cycle, its connection to the cell division cycle (CDC) has remained unclear. We discovered that a prototrophic batch culture of budding yeast, growing in a phosphate-limited ethanol medium, synchronizes spontaneously and goes through multiple metabolic cycles, whereas the fraction of cells in the G1/G0 phase of the CDC increases monot...
