A country-wide sentinel surveillance system was initiated in Germany after implementation of routine varicella vaccination of children >11 months. Sentinel physicians report monthly the number of cases and of severe varicella complications (VC). Case-based questionnaires are completed for VC. We evaluated trend and clinical features of reported VC from April 2005 to March 2009. Reported VC decr...

We present in this paper an exemplar-based Voice Conversion (VC) method using Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF), which is different from conventional statistical VC. NMF-based VC has advantages of noise robustness and naturalness of converted voice compared to Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM)based VC. However, because NMF-based VC is based on parallel training data of source and target speake...

A virtual community (VC) of committed members is of great strategic value to online firms and vendors owing to its ability to attract and retain members. However, online firms and vendors find it difficult to instill commitment among their VC members. Therefore, this study examines the mechanism of customer commitment formation in a relationship-cum-interest based VC. By understanding the mecha...

To evaluate the involvement of trafficking of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR) GluR2 and GluR3 subunits in an acute inflammatory orofacial pain, we analyzed nocifensive behavior, phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (pERK) and Fos expression in Vi/Vc, Vc and C1/C2 in GluR2 delta7 knock-in (KI), GluR3 delta7 KI mice and wild-type mice. We ...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Computed tomographic (CT) colonography or virtual colonoscopy (VC) is a non-invasive imaging method proposed for screening patients with colorectal neoplasias. Our aims were to study the diagnostic accuracy and interobserver agreement of VC for correct patient identification compared with conventional colonoscopy (CC). METHODS This was a prospective study of 50 patients su...

This paper develops bounds on out-of-sample error rates for support vector machines (SVMs). The bounds are based on the numbers of support vectors in the SVMs rather than on VC dimension. The bounds developed here improve on support vector counting bounds derived using Littlestone and Warmuth’s compression-based bounding technique.

We investigate agnostic learning when there is no noise in the labeling function, that is, the labels are deterministic. We show that in this setting, in contrast to the fully agnostic learning setting (with possibly noisy labeling functions), the sample complexity of learning a binary hypothesis class is not fully determined by the VCdimension of the class. For any d, we present classes of VC-...
