In this paper, we carry a detailed study of mechanical systems with configuration space Q −→ Q/G for which the base Q/G variables are being controlled. The overall system ́s motion is considered to be induced from the base one due to the presence of general nonholonomic constraints. It is shown that the solution can be factorized into dynamical and geometrical parts. Moreover, under favorable ki...
This study investigates the escalation of commitment of IT project development. A two-phase 2×2×2×2 laboratory experiment was conducted to examine the impact of sunk cost (low vs. high), percentage of project completion (low vs. high), de-escalation strategy (presence vs. absence), and decision unit (individual vs. group) on the escalation behavior. The results indicated that both project facto...
This paper presents a system to summarize a Microblog post and its responses with the goal to provide readers a more constructive and concise set of information for efficient digestion. We introduce a novel two-phase summarization scheme. In the first phase, the post plus its responses are classified into four categories based on the intention, interrogation, sharing, discussion and chat. For e...
Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis results obtained in the 1996 performance assessment (PA) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) are presented for two-phase flow in the vicinity of the repository under disturbed conditions resulting from drilling intrusions. Techniques based on Latin hypercube sampling, examination of scatterplots, stepwise regression analysis, partial correlation analy...
We give a new criterion of quark confinement/deconfinement by deriving a low-energy effective theory of QCD. The effective theory can explain Abelian dominance in low-energy physics of QCD, especially, quark confinement. Finally, we apply the above criterion to the large flavor QCD and discuss its phase structure. The result suggests the existence of conformal phase.

We introduce a notion of viscosity solutions for the two-phase Stefan problem, which incorporates possible existence of a mushy region generated by the initial data. We show that a comparison principle holds between viscosity solutions, and investigate the coincidence of the viscosity solutions and the weak solutions defined via integration by parts. In particular, in the absence of initial mus...
Consider how these problems could be solved by using a solid phase (such as a chromatographic sorbent) instead of the second liquid phase. There are still two distinct phases that can be readily segregated. Also, by proper selection of pH and type of solid phase sorbent, one could optimize the conditions to selectively partition the component(s) of interest on the solid phase. After removal of ...
