We revisit the problem of real-time pricing for load frequency balancing introduced in [3]. Taking inspiration from the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism, we derive incremental price functions that implement the optimal solution in Nash equilibrium. We then compare this pricing scheme with some recent dynamic mechanisms.
In many service industries, the firm adjusts the product price dynamically by taking into account the current product inventory and the future demand distribution. Because the firm can easily monitor the product inventory, the success of dynamic pricing relies on an accurate demand forecast. In this paper, we consider a situation where the firm does not have an accurate demand forecast, but can...
The last decade has seen a deluge in data collection and dissemination across a broad range of areas. This phenomena has led to creation of online data markets where entities engage in sale and purchase of data. In this scenario, the key challenge for the data market platform is to ensure that it allows real time, scalable, arbitrage-free pricing of user queries. At the same time, the platform ...
We study the effects of different pricing strategies available to a continuous review inventory system with capacitated supply, which operates in a fluctuating environment. The system has a single server with exponential processing time. The inventory holding cost is nondecreasing and convex in the inventory level, the production cost is linear with no set-up cost. The potential customer demand...
Previous studies of road congestion pricing problem assume that transportation networks are managed by a central administrative authority with an objective of improving the performance of the whole network. In practice, a transportation network may be comprised of multiple independent local regions with relative independent objectives. In this paper, we investigate the cooperative and competiti...
abstract management of water resources in iran is faced with growing demand for water resources, a considerable increase in the costs of supplying additional water and uncontrolled exploitation of underground waters. economists suggest water pricing to improve water use efficiency; however, government tends to reject that advice due to political risk, economic and cultural concerns. we used a p...
This paper surveys the results from 126 pricing experiments with dynamic pricing and time-of-use pricing of electricity. These experiments have been carried out across three continents at various times during the past decade. Data from 74 of these experiments are sufficiently complete to allow us to identify the relationship between the strength of the peak to off-peak price ratio and the assoc...
We characterize optimal state-dependent pricing rules under various forms of infrequent information. In all models, infrequent price changes arise from the existence of a lump-sum “menu cost.” We entertain various alternatives for the source and nature of infrequent information. In two benchmark cases with continuously available information, optimal pricing rules are purely state-dependent. In ...
Many practitioners currently use rules of thumb to price tasks on online labor markets. Incorrect pricing leads to task starvation or inefficient use of capital. Formal pricing policies can address these challenges. In this paper we argue that a pricing policy can be based on the trade-off between price and desired completion time. We show how this duality can lead to a better pricing policy fo...
This paper examines the influence of latency on cloud computing pricing dynamics. Using Amazon EC2 east and west market spot instance pricing and latency intra-day data from April 9, 2010 to May 22, 2011, we find considerable time variation in spot instance prices and prices are often persistently greater in the west. Bivariate Vector Autoregressive model results show that within-market autoreg...
