An interesting and useful analogy can be drawn between the equations of static poroelasticity and the equations of thermoelasticity including entropy. The correspondence is of practical use in determining the effective parameters in an inhomogeneous poroelastic medium using known results from the literature on the effective thermal expansion coefficient and the effective heat capacity of a diso...

A model of fractional-order of thermoelasticity is applied to study a 2D problem of mode-I crack in a fibre-reinforced thermal environment. The crack is under prescribed distributions of heat and pressure. The normal mode analysis is applied to deduce exact formulae for displacements, stresses, and temperature. Variations of field quantities with the axial direction are illustrated graphically....

this paper deals with the determination of displacement function and thermal stresses of a finite length isotropic functionally graded hollow cylinder subjected to uniform temperature field. the solution of the governing thermoelastic equation is obtained, as suggested by spencer et al. for anisotropic laminates.  numerical calculations are also carried out for fgm (functionally graded material...

We consider a porous thermoelastic body, including voidage time derivative among the independent constitutive variables. For the initial boundary value problem of such materials, we analyze the temporal behaviour of the solutions. To this aim we use the Cesaro means for the components of energy and prove the asymptotic equipartition in mean of the kinetic and strain energies.

The paper presents preliminary results of a study about the possibility to determine the thermoelastic properties of diamond-like carbon films by means of a photothermal deflection technique. The technique allows to perform measurements as a function of temperature in the range 10-300 K The results are in qualitative agreement with theoretical predicitons.

This paper presents applications of the laser induced shear wave directivity pattern in the thermoelastic regime, to the detection and the in-depth profiling of overthickness and closed cracks perpendicular to the surface. Some results on academic samples and first measurements of actual depth profilings of welds are presented and discussed.

An implantable MEMS piezoelectric transducer for middle ear hearing aids was developed. The physical vibration properties are simulated using finite element method. A study of thermoelastic damping effect of four designed MEMS mirrors is presented. An optical measurement system based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer is developed, and the accuracy of this system is tested.

We consider dynamical and quasi-static thermoelastic contact problems in R modeling the evolution of temperature and displacement in an elastic body that may come into contact with a rigid foundation. The existence of solutions to these dynamical and quasi-static nonlinear problems and the exponential stability are investigated using a penalty method. Interior smoothing effects in the quasi-sta...

We consider an inhomogeneous thermoelastic system with second sound in one space dimension where the coe cients are spaceand time-dependent. For Dirichlet-Neumann type boundary conditions the global existence of smooth solutions is proved by using the theory of Kato. Then the asymptotic behavior of the solutions is discussed.

Thermodynamic (Anderson 2005) and elastic properties (Musgrave 1970) of minerals provide the fundamental information needed to analyze seismic observations and to model Earth’s dynamic state. The connection between pressure, temperature, chemical composition, and mineralogy that produce seismic velocity gradients, heterogeneities, and discontinuities, can be established with knowledge of thermo...
