AIM Within the context of minimally invasive dentistry this article describes the sonic and ultrasonic cavity preparation techniques and assesses their advantages and disadvantages, clinical difficulties of their use, and offers a statement about these devices. BACKGROUND Ultra-conservative Class 2 restorative techniques require the use of devices such as sonic and the new ultrasonic preparat...
The maxillary lateral incisor is the second most common congenitally absent tooth. There are several treatment options for replacing the missing maxillary lateral incisor, including canine substitution, tooth-supported restoration, or single-tooth implant. Dental implants are an appropriate treatment option for replacing missing maxillary lateral incisor teeth in adolescents when their dental a...
Purpose Healthcare providers (HCP) who care for traumatically injured service members are at risk for stress, burnout, and decreased clinical effectiveness. After two decades of war, the intensive work environment and stress associated with caring for these service members and their families are damaging the emotional and physical wellbeing of our military HCPs. This pilot study explored the ef...
A computerized dental model was used to study the stress induced in a Class 1 amalgam restoration when supported by bases of varying materials and thickness. Under the same load, the maximum tensile stresses and deflections in the amalgam restoration increased at least threefold with a zinc oxide-eugenol base as compared with a ZnPO4 cement base.
In the past three decades, some new materials have entered that provide more esthetic options in restoration of posterior region. The most common indirect restoration is the single unit posterior tooth. In today’s dental practice there are many materials and options available to restore a tooth that has been compromised from caries.
PURPOSE To evaluate CAD/CAM conic crowns to obtain a reversible and predictable retention in implant-supported prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five 1- to 8-degree CAD/CAM abutments and their respective copings (n = 40) were designed and manufactured to measure the retention strength (in N) on a Zwick/Roell testing frame. RESULTS The mean retention strength values found, in descending orde...
In this paper, we describe a solid freeform fabrication procedure for human dental restoration via porcelain slurry micro-extrusion. Based on submicron-sized dental porcelain powder obtained via ball milling process, a porcelain slurry formulation has been developed. The formulation developed allows the porcelain slurry to show a pseudoplastic behavior and moderate viscosity, which permits the ...
dental trauma generally requires multidisciplinary planning and treatment for good prognosis. when immature teeth are traumatized to a degree where pulp necrosis ensues, the objective of root canal treatment should be apexogenesis and root maturation. apexification of the root is the conventional choice, which involves cleaning the canal and filling it with a temporary medication that stimulate...
An overall treatment with dental implant consist of several essential parts, including a superstructure containing fixture (part of the implant embedding in the bone), abutment (a machined tapered prepared superstructure attached to the fixture), a retainer (which hold the aesthetic portion of the restoration) and the crown (aesthetic part of the restoration). In this common kind of restoration...
