Cardiac sarcomas are rare malignant tumors. Angiosarcoma is the most common cardiac sarcoma and is present in up to 33% of cases. Angiosarcomas have a poor prognosis, with a short survival expectancy. We report a case of a right atrial angiosarcoma treated by partial tumor resection followed by chemotherapy.
OBJECTIVES The goal of this research was to clarify whether the benefit of reperfusion therapy for myocardial infarction was sustained long-term and to assess the gain in life expectancy by reperfusion therapy. BACKGROUND Reperfusion therapy in acute myocardial infarction reduces infarct size and increases hospital survival. METHODS We analyzed the 20-year outcome of 533 patients (mean age ...
BACKGROUND Antiretroviral therapy (ART) substantially decreases morbidity and mortality in people living with HIV. In this study, we describe population-level trends in the adult life expectancy and trends in the residual burden of HIV mortality after the roll-out of a public sector ART programme in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, one of the populations with the most severe HIV epidemics in the wo...
The influence of maternal care on child survival has evolved throughout human history due to variation in altriciality, allocare, and maternal behaviors. Here, we study the impact of these factors on the force of selection acting on age-specific survival and fertility (measured with elasticity analysis) in a model that incorporates the dependence of child survival on maternal survival. Results ...
aging coefficient (ac), or aged–child ratio, is the number of individuals aged 65 years and over, divided by the number of individuals aged 0-14, multiplied by 100. in this point–descriptive study, the aging coefficient has been calculated for the followers of four different religions, for the past four respective decades, according to sex and locality. overall age composition in different reli...
Introduction Quantifying the years of life gained associated with light-intensity physical activity may be important for risk communication in public health. Because no studies have examined role expectancy, this study aims to quantify from a population-based U.S. sample. Methods This used data 6,636 participants National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2003–2006). An...
BACKGROUND Middle-aged men who regularly drink a moderate amount of alcohol have lower mortality rates from all causes in comparison with abstainers and heavy drinkers. This cohort study looks at the relationship between alcohol consumption and long-term survival, adjusting for smoking habit and physical activity. METHODS In 1965, a total of 1536 Italian males aged 45-65 years underwent an ex...
BACKGROUND Combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly increased survival among HIV-positive adults in the United States (U.S.) and Canada, but gains in life expectancy for this region have not been well characterized. We aim to estimate temporal changes in life expectancy among HIV-positive adults on ART from 2000-2007 in the U.S. and Canada. METHODS Participants were from the...
BACKGROUND Studies show that the U.S. foreign-born population has lower mortality than the native-born population before age 65. Until recently, the lack of data prohibited reliable comparisons of U.S. mortality by nativity at older ages. This study provides reliable estimates of U.S. foreign-born and native-born mortality at ages 65 and older at the end of the 20(th) century. Life expectancies...
