Idiopathic unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis is a rare condition that typically causes minimal symptoms, especially during exercise. Several reports indicated progressive improvement or even complete recovery to normal function of diaphragmatic paralysis that complicated various thoracic and extrathoracic conditions. In this case we describe a 57-year-old male with spontaneous recovery of idio...
Diaphragmatic paralysis after cardiac surgery is an important complication especially in infants. We report a child who developed diaphragmatic paralysis, atelectasis, bronchomalasia and respiratory failure following cardiac surgery. Ventilatory support alleviated respiratory distress in this child. This report illustrates the usefulness of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support for a pe...

The interaction between muscle activity, flow and lung volume in spontaneously sleeping neonates is poorly studied, since it requires the assessment of transcutaneous electromyography of respiratory muscles (rEMG) in matched comparison to lung function measurements. METHODS A...

We report the case of a child with tetraplegia after cervical trauma, who subsequently underwent diaphragmatic pacemaker implantation. We reviewed the major indications for diaphragmatic pacing and the types of devices employed. We highlight the unequivocal benefit of diaphragmatic pacing in the social and educational reintegration of individuals with tetraplegia.
a one-month-old male terrier dog was referred in shock status with a history of anorexia, tachypnea, abdominal distention and progressive weight loss. auscultation of right side of the lungs found enhanced respiratory noises. the thorough auscultation of the opposite side of the chest revealed the presence of typical intestinal sounds. cardiac auscultation revealed muffled heart sounds and a di...
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia associated with cardiac anomalies is a major therapeutic challenge. We report a case of Congenital diaphragmatic hernia associated with coarctation of the aorta.
