Chaotic spin-wave solitons in magnetic film active feedback rings were observed for the first time. At some ring gain level, one observes the self-generation of a single spin-wave soliton pulse in the ring. When the pulse circulates in the ring, its amplitude varies chaotically with time. Numerical simulations based on a gain-loss nonlinear Schrödinger equation reproduce the observed responses.

The question of the existence of order in two-dimensional isotropic dipolar Heisen-berg antiferromagnets is studied. It is shown that the dipolar interaction leads to a gap in the spin-wave energy and a nonvanishing order parameter. The resulting finite Néel-temperature is calculated for a square lattice by means of linear spin-wave theory.

We discuss the low energy theory of two-dimensional metals near the onset of spin density wave order. It is well known that such a metal has a superconducting instability induced by the formation of spin-singlet pairs of electrons, with the pairing amplitude changing sign between regions of the Fermi surface connected by the spin density wave ordering wavevector. Here we review recent arguments...

Combined ab initio and micromagnetic simulations are carried out to demonstrate the feasibility on the electrical manipulation of spin-wave propagation in ultrathin Fe films. It is discovered that the exchange interaction can be substantially weakened under the influence of electric field applied perpendicular to the magnetic film surface. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the electric field mod...

The effect of antiferromagnetic interchain coupling in alternating spin (1,1/2) chains is studied by mean of spin wave theory and density matrix renormalization group(DMRG). Two limiting cases are investigated, the two-leg ladder and its two dimensional (2D) generalization. For the 2D case, spin wave approximation predicts a smooth dimensional crossover keeping the ground state ordered, whereas...

We study low energy collective modes and transport properties of the “helical metal” on the surface of a topological insulator. At low energies, electrical transport and spin dynamics at the surface are exactly related by an operator identity equating the electric current to the in-plane components of the spin degrees of freedom. From this relation it follows that an undamped spin wave always a...

We examine the spin-orbit coupling effects that appear when a wave carrying intrinsic angular momentum interacts with a medium. The Berry phase is shown to be a manifestation of the Coriolis effect in a noninertial reference frame attached to the wave. In the most general case, when both the direction of propagation and the state of the wave are varied, the phase is given by a simple expression...

Spin wave excitations were measured in the ferromagnetic phase of Nd1/2Sr1/2MnO3 by neutron scattering. This compound is located in proximity to the A-type antiferromagnetic state, and it shows a clear anisotropy and anomalous softening of the spin wave excitations. The softening in the ferromagnetic phase is induced by the orbital ordering.

A spin wave majority fork-like structure with feature size of 40 nm, is presented and investigated, through micromagnetic simulations. The structure consists of three merging out-of-plane magnetization spin wave buses and four magneto-electric cells serving as three inputs and an output. The information of the logic signals is encoded in the phase of the transmitted spin waves and subsequently ...

In a collinear antiferromagnet with easy-axis anisotropy, symmetry dictates that the spin wave modes must be doubly degenerate. Theses two modes, distinguished by their opposite polarization and available only in antiferromagnets, give rise to a novel degree of freedom to encode and process information. We show that the spin wave polarization can be manipulated by an electric field induced Dzya...
