Careers follows p 614 Our Careers section shines the light on two researchers who are leading the way in their respective fields. Professor Helena Teede is an endocrinologist clinician–researcher who led a team that developed the world’s first evidence-based guidelines for polycystic ovary syndrome. She is professor of women’s health at Monash University in Melbourne and director of the Monash ...

Mobile objects are frequently confined to move on a ground surface which, locally at least, is approximately flat. Existing structure-from-motion (SFM) algorithms make no use of real-world motion constraints of this kind. In this paper we present a simple novel SFM algorithm whereby the above motion constraints can be conveniently incorporated into the constraint equations on the relative depth...

The proposal AgLOTOS algebraic language is dedicated to the specification of agent plans in ambient systems (AmI). From its two level specification, plans can be built automatically as a system of concurrent processes. In this context, we show how to achieve a powerful mechanism for a contextual guidance based on a specific and formal construction called Contextual Planning System (CPS). The CP...

We present observations of galaxy environmental dependencies using data from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey. From a combined analysis of the luminosity function, Butcher-Oemler effect and trends in Hα line strengths we find support for a model where galaxy properties are mainly set by initial conditions at the time of their formation.

In extracting three-dimensional positional information from images, both static stereo processing and monocular structure-from-motion processing possess shortcomings for a general purpose vision system. A solution to these problems is to use stereo structurefrom-motion processing. This paper addresses the problems of integrating stereo and structure-frommotion data to determine the camera ego-m...

A scene containing multiple independently moving, possibly occluding, rigid objects is considered under the weak perspective camera model. We obtain a set of feature points tracked across a number of frames and address the problem of 3D motion segmentation of the objects in presence of measurement noise and outliers. We extend the robust structure from motion (SfM) method [5] to 3D motion segme...

Background The Ministry of Health (MOH) of Mozambique became a People that Deliver (PtD) focus country in 2011. Soon after the PtD Conference in 2011, the MOH re-ignited the development of a Strategic Plan for Pharmaceutical Logistics and decided to make reform of Human Resources for the Supply Chain (HR for SC) a key pillar of the plan, as well as a component of the Health Sector Strategic Pla...

Being a ‘bastard’ is not necessarily as derogatory as it might sound. In an Australian context it can be a term of endearment, often expressed in jovial light-heartedness amongst ‘mates’ (some still use the word ‘cobber’) or at least people with a modicum of friendliness. Hodge and Mishra (1991) create a ‘complex’ out of being a ‘bastard’; a ‘bastard complex’ alludes to the sense of illegitimac...
