Barium chloride dihydrate (min. 99%) was purchased from Riedel-de Haёn and used as received. The silica source was a commercial sodium silicate solution (so-called water glass) containing about 12.5 wt% SiO2 and 13.8 wt% Na, as supplied by Sigma-Aldrich (reagent grade). All solvents employed for the spectroscopic measurements were of UV spectroscopic grade (Aldrich). Stock solutions (0.1 and 1 ...

Previous results of the comparison of colors given by indicators in alkaline buffers and pure aqueous sodium hydroxide have been repeated and confirmed. The electrometric determinations show that the sodium hydroxide was pure and gave theoretical values for the concentration of hydroxyl ion. The slight but distinct neutralising effect of dilute solutions of alkali has been measured electrometri...

Following application of 20 mul of 2 N sodium hydroxide to the rabbit cornea, the prostaglandin-like activity in the aqueous humor increased from undetectable levels to around 30 ng, per milliliter, a level which was sustained for up to 24 hours. This increase correlated with the previously reported sustained elevation of intraocular pressure following a 20 mul alkali burn. Pretreatment with as...

A novel method for the deprotection of oligodeoxyribonucleotides under microwave irradiation has been developed. The oligodeoxynucleotides having base labile, phenoxyacetyl (pac), protection for exocyclic amino functions were fully deprotected in 0. 2 M sodium hydroxide (methanol:water : : 1:1, v/v) = A and 1 M sodium hydroxide (methanol:water : : 1:1, v/v) = B using microwaves in 4 and 2 min, ...

1. The effects of food and antacid on the pharmacokinetics of tenidap were investigated in this randomised, 3-way cross-over study. 2. Twenty-one healthy young men, mean age 27.4 years, received single oral doses of tenidap sodium 120 mg at weekly intervals after either an overnight fast, with food or with 20 ml of the antacid Maalox (aluminum hydroxide 1.8 g and magnesium hydroxide 1.2 g). Pla...

A reliable and simple procedure to extract polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from marine mussels using microwave energy is proposed. Freeze-dried mussels were subjected to MASE (Microwave Assisted Solvent Extraction) in a closed-vessel microwave system with n-pentane-sodium hydroxide (5 %) or dichloromethane-pentane (1:1) at different temperatures (70 and 90 oC), the extraction time was 10 minut...

Bovine digital dermatitis (BDD) is the most prevalent infectious cause of lameness in cattle. Because Treponema infection is a major etiology of BDD, the most common treatment of BDD is an antibiotic. Nonetheless, dairy cows require a withdrawal period after antibiotic treatment before their milk can be marketed. To address the problem, in this study, we tested whether 3 nonantibiotic agents (u...

The one pot reaction of glyoxal and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in aqueous sodium hydroxide was found to be a safe and inexpensive method for the preparation of diaminoglyoxime. By increasing stoichiometric ratio of the hydroxylamine hydrochloride and decreasing the solvent volume, the product yield increased considerably (~ 70%).

In this study the feasibility of preparing bioflocculant from excess biological sludge was investigated. Hydrochloric acid was used to disintegrate sludge to prepare bioflocculant. The effects of acid dosage and flocculating conditions were studied. The optimized disintegration conditions was that acid dosage was 10 mL for 50 mL sludge suspension. Factors such as bioflocculant dosage, pH and te...

Pterostilbene found in blueberries and Pterocarpus marsupium heartwood is structurally similar to resveratrol. It is used for the treatment of cancer, diabetes and fungal infections. Three spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the determination of Pterostilbene. Two first derivative methods and one difference spectrophotometric method were attempted. Two first derivative spectrosco...
