Recently, interest has increased in using scramjet engines as a means of long-range high-speed flights and economical access to outer space. One of the most perilous causes of scramjet malfunctions is the unstart event that is initiated by excessive heat release from combustion. When unstart occurs, a strong moving-shock structure is first formed in the engine, and the shock structure propagate...

Twenty-five patients with trigeminal neuralgia have been treated by fractional posterior fossa Vth nerve section. The procedure is shown to be effective in relieving pain, preserving corneal sensation and the motor root. Nineteen patients showed little loss of light touch sensation, and in 15 of these there was dissociation of sensory loss to pinprick and light touch. The results support the co...

We study some new classes of generalized closed sets (in the sense of N. Levine) in a topological space via the associated δ-closure and θ-closure. The relationships among these new classes and existing classes of generalized closed sets are investigated. In the last section we provide an extensive and more or less complete survey on separation axioms characterized via singletons. 2000 AMS Clas...

This paper describes the largest scale annotation project involving the Enron email corpus to date. Over 12,500 emails were classified, by humans, into the categories “Business” and “Personal”, and then subcategorised by type within these categories. The paper quantifies how well humans perform on this task (evaluated by inter-annotator agreement). It presents the problems experienced with the ...

Virtual photon scattering in e + e − collisions can result in events with the electron-positron pair at large rapidity separation with hadronic activity in between. The BFKL equation resums large logarithms that dominate the cross section for this process. We report here on a Monte Carlo method for solving the BFKL equation that allows kinematic constraints to be taken into account. The applica...

We calculate the next-to-leading corrections to the jet vertex which is relevant for the Mueller-Navelet-jets production in pp̄ collisions and for the forward jet cross section in ep collisions. In this first part we present the results of the vertex for an incoming quark. Particular emphasis is given to the separation of the collinear divergent part and the central region of the produced gluon.

Dilepton production following radiative capture of a proton on a nuclear target is studied in the Impulse Approximation. The cross section is decomposed in terms of four time-like nuclear structure functions through a longitudinal-transverse separation of the nuclear current. Using a simple PWIA model, cross sections and conversion factors are calculated for capture at proton energies of 100-20...

Fast multiple spin-echo spectroscopic imaging, also called turbo spectroscopic imaging (TSI), may be enhanced in terms of acquisition speed by taking advantage of the higher spectral separation afforded at higher field strength and by further combining it with sensitivity encoding (SENSE). This article demonstrates the possibilities of this approach at 3T, resulting in scan-time reductions of u...

We describe a mechanism and propose design strategies to selectively tailor repulsive-gradient-optical forces between parallel, nanophotonic waveguides via morphology augmented by slow-light band-edge modes. We show that at small separation lengths, the repulsive force can be made nearly 2 orders of magnitude larger than that of standard dielectric waveguides with a square cross section. The in...

In this investigation, the performance of a tower for absorption of sulphur dioxide gas into calcium carbonate solution has been studied. The trays had no downcomer and the tower itself was a scaled down pilot from industrial equipment. The industrial scale tower was used for clean up of 110000 m3/hr gas using 40 m3/hr alkaline solution. The study was composed of two parts. In the first section...
