The human body has an amazing ability to undergo self-repair. However, this natural regeneration process is limited, and in those patients with infection or disease, the body’s repair process may be compromised. To improve, maintain, or restore function to damaged or diseased tissues, scientists are looking to engineer tissue equivalents either as temporary substitutes while the body heals or a...
Laparoscopic Extraperitoneal Inguinal Hernia Repair Using a Novel Mesh with Self-Fixating Properties
Laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) hernia repair is a well-accepted technique for inguinal hernia repair. Different types of mesh and fixation methods have been described. Recently, a novel, self-fixating mesh has been introduced and used successfully in open inguinal hernia repairs. We report the first initial experience using this mesh for TEP repairs.
Self-healing materials can repair damage caused by mechanical wear, thereby extending lifetime of devices. A transparent, self-healing, highly stretchable ionic conductor is presented that autonomously heals after experiencing severe mechanical damage. The design of this self-healing polymer uses ion-dipole interactions as the dynamic motif. The unique properties of this material when used to e...
The skin of humanoid robots often lacks human tactility and the inherent self-repair capability biological tissues. Recently, researchers have grown a living, self-healing on robot finger by subsequent culturing dermal epidermal cells. Here, we highlight significance this study alongside challenges toward developing biohybrid equipped with sensate adaptive living robotic skins.
OBJECTIVES The clinical significance of self-criticism and self-compassion has prompted the development of questionnaires assessing these constructs. However, there is a lack of measures assessing their interaction within specific contexts and potential involvement in mood repair processes. DESIGN To rectify this, we developed the Self-Compassion and Self-Criticism Scales (SCCS), based on res...
Single-row versus double-row repair of rotator cuff tears is currently a controversial topic. In this Level V article, we articulate why we believe that second-generation double-row repair techniques, which use bridging sutures to link the 2 rows of suture anchors together in a self-reinforcing manner, are producing superior clinical and biomechanical results.
Homotypic and heterotypic protein associations control Rad51 function in double-strand break repair.
Rad51 is essential for efficient repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and recombination in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Here, we examine Rad51 protein-protein interactions and their biological significance. GAL4 two-hybrid fusion analysis demonstrated that the amino-terminal region of Rad51 mediates both a strong Rad51:Rad51 self-association and a Rad51:Rad52 interaction. Several Rad51 varian...
the present study was carried on to investigate the use of face-keeping strategies in reaction to complaints by male and female in two different cultures, persian and american english. to see if apology strategies are affected by cultural, contextual preferences and gender of interlocutors in two distinct languages of persian and american english. the hypotheses to be tested were 1) ifids, acce...
Introduction Myocardial tissue regeneration is an emerging field of interest, aiming to reintroduce cardiac tissue and/or enhance self-repair of the infarct after myocardial infarction (MI). We developed a novel acellular injectable alginate biomaterial by utilizing the ability of alginate-sulfate to affinity-bind and present heparin-binding proteins. We hypothesized that such affinitybinding b...
