Cross-sectional imaging is an indispensable tool in the investigation of parapharyngeal space and infratemporal fossa pathologies. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging exquisitely display the complex anatomy of this region and provides accurate spatial localization of pathology, differential diagnosis and vital information for treatment planning.
Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of cholangiocarcinoma is problematic. Cross sectional imaging and tumor marker CA 19-9 are not absolutely reliable and tissue sampling is difficult. We present a patient with cholangitis and cystic dilation of intra-hepatic bile ducts that primarily diagnosed as Caroli's disease in imaging and needle biopsy but laparotomy and surgical biopsy revealed ch...
Application of the new nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method of fast scan proton imaging is described. Cross sectional proton scans of a human finger in vivo are measured and reveal considerable anatomical detail, particularly of the soft tissue regions. Imaging of tumour tissue is also briefly discussed.
Fluorescence imaging is a tool of increasing importance in aerodynamics, fluid flow visualization, and nondestructive evaluation in a variety of industrial circumstances. It is a means for producing two-dimensional images of real surfaces or fluid case-sectional areas that correspond to data on properties such as temperature or pressure across the surfaces. This article discusses three major fl...
hydatid cyst (hc) is a parasitic disease that may involve many organs, especially the lung and the liver. pulmonary artery location of the hydatid cyst is extremely rare, but it may cause life-threatening complications. we report a case of a hydatid cyst that completely filled the left main pulmonary artery and its distal part without cardiac involvement. thoracic computed tomography showed fil...
Bladder endometriosis is a rare cause of a localized bladder mass, potentially mimicking a neoplasm at cross-sectional imaging. We present the case of a patient with cyclic pelvic pain and urinary symptoms secondary to bladder endometriosis, with characteristic pelvic ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging findings. Potential pathological mechanisms are discussed.
Gynecologic cancers are a common cause of morbidity and mortality in women of all ages. While many gynecologic cancers are staged clinically using the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system, imaging can be a useful adjunct to clinical staging. Cross sectional imaging techniques such as ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging ...
BACKGROUND The role of imaging in the staging, treatment planning, and ongoing surveillance of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) continues to evolve. Changes in patient demographics, treatment paradigms, and technology present opportunities and challenges for the management of HNSCC. METHODS The general indications and usage of standard and multimodal cross-sectional...
conclusions our case is the first report of ivus imaging of subclavian stenosis resulting from takayasu’s arteritis and provides insight into the pathology behind such lesions. introduction takayasu’s arteritis (ta) is a chronic, idiopathic, inflammatory disease that affects large elastic arteries, including the aorta and its main branches. no consensus exists currently on the superiority of su...
Introduction: In spite of development in the medical physics technologies, medical physics curriculum for medical students in Iran has not been updated, while teaching medical physics in many universities around the world has been designed based on applied aims. It seems that modern subject teaching in diagnosis and therapy must be alternated with theoretical subjects of medical physics. Method...
