Femoroacetabular impingement, also known as hip impingement, is the abutment of the acetabular rim and the proximal femur. Hip impingement is increasingly recognized as a common etiology of hip pain in athletes, adolescents, and adults. It injures the labrum and articular cartilage, and can lead to osteoarthritis of the hip if left untreated. Patients with hip impingement often report anterolat...

This is an isolated case of a giant cell tumor originating from the synovium of the hip, consistent with Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS) and associated with concurrent Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI). There is a paucity of literature on this condition. This case report will add to the literature on hip pathology that may be treated using arthroscopic surgery.

OBJECTIVE To present our experience and preliminary results from using controlled hip dislocation to treat cam-like femoroacetabular impingement, in teenagers and young adults with sequelae of slipped capital femoral epiphysis. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis on 15 patients who were treated in a tertiary-level hospital between 2011 and 2013. The following data were collected for ana...

The patient was a 41-year-old woman with an 8-month history of insidious sharp right groin pain and paresthesia radiating distally to the medial lower leg and foot with sitting and any activity involving hip extension. She denied any clicking in her hip. She was previously diagnosed by her internal medicine physician with a femoral hernia. However, surgical correction of hernia, as well as nons...

Statistical shape modeling (SSM) was used to quantify 3D variation and morphologic differences between femurs with and without cam femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). 3D surfaces were generated from CT scans of femurs from 41 controls and 30 cam FAI patients. SSM correspondence particles were optimally positioned on each surface using a gradient descent energy function. Mean shapes for groups w...
