[1] We have conducted a study to determine the influence of Asian pollution plumes on free tropospheric ozone above the west coast of the United States during spring. We also explored the additional impact of North American emissions on east coast free tropospheric ozone. Long-term ozone monitoring sites in the United States are few, but we obtained ozonesonde profiles from Trinidad Head on the...

STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE The harp seal occurs throughout much of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans (Ronald and Healey 1981; Lavigne and Kovacs 1988); however, in recent years, numbers of sightings and strandings have been increasing off the east coast of the United States from Maine to New Jersey (Katona et al. 1993; Stevick and Fernald 1998; B. Rubinstein pers. comm., New Engla...

We introduce a new class of edge labelings for locally finite lattices which we call SB-labelings. We prove for finite lattices which admit an SB-labeling that each open interval has the homotopy type of a ball or of a sphere of some dimension. Natural examples include the weak order, the Tamari lattice, and the finite distributive lattices.

The Atlantic Forest contains more bryophyte species and greater endemism than any other Brazilian phytogeographic domain. We analyzed the bryoflora of an remnant along southern coast to examine: (i) floristic composition, richness, life forms bryocenological groups in different phytophysiognomies (humid lowlands, sandy Restinga forests, swampy forests); (ii) similarities among them; and, (iii) ...

The west coast of the Indian peninsula receives very heavy rainfall during the summer monsoon (June-September) season with average rainfall over some parts exceeding 250 cm. Heavy rainfall events with rainfall more than 15 cm day −1 at one or more stations along the west coast of India occur frequently and cause considerable damage. out during the monsoon season of 2002 to study these events. From 1998 to 2008, 68 adult female loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) were instrumented with platform transmitter terminals at nesting beaches in Georgia, North Carolina (NC) and South Carolina (SC) on the East Coast of the United States of America (30 480N, 81 280W to 33 510N, 77 590W). The majority of post-nesting loggerheads (N = 42, 62 %) migrated to foraging habitats in the Mid-Atlan...

STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE Risso's dolphin is distributed worldwide in tropical and temperate seas. Risso's dolphins generally have an oceanic range, and occur along the Atlantic coast of North America from Florida to eastern Newfoundland (Leatherwood et al. 1976; Baird and Stacey 1990). Off the northeast U.S. coast, Risso's dolphin is distributed along the continental shelf edge fro...

Large-scale coastal monitoring programs are challenging to maintain over time but necessary understand and further predict complex evolution resilience. The 230 km-long Aquitaine coast is a high-energy meso-macrotidal composed of beach-dune systems showing dramatic morphological changes at seasonal interannual scales. This study investigates the alongshore variability in response based on uniqu...
