A Ru complex-incorporated Ti-based MOF (Ti-MOF-Ru(tpy)2) has been synthesised by using a bis(4'-(4-carboxyphenyl)-terpyridine)Ru(ii) complex (Ru(tpy)2) as an organic linker. Ti-MOF-Ru(tpy)2 promotes photocatalytic hydrogen production from water containing a sacrificial electron donor under visible-light irradiation up to 620 nm.

The use of coumarin dyes adsorbed on titanium dioxide (TiO2, P25) successfully extended the photocatalytic UV response of TiO2 toward visible light region. The hydrogenation of acetophenone (AP) using TiO2 modified with coumarin dyes proceeded with good chemical efficiencies under visible light irradiation. The role of sacrificial reagents on this dye-sensitized system is also reported.

Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) have been used as photocatalysts for hydrogen production from water in the presence of a sacrificial electron donor. The relative importance of the linker geometry, the co-monomer linker length, and the degree of planarisation were studied with respect to the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate.

Unambiguous catalytic homogeneous alkane transfer dehydrogenation was observed with a group 10 metal complex catalyst, LPt(II)(cyclo-C6H10)H, supported by a lipophilic dimethyl-di(4-tert-butyl-2-pyridyl)borate anionic ligand and tert-butylethene as the sacrificial hydrogen acceptor.

A novel tropylium-based coupling reagent has been developed to facilitate the synthesis of a series of esters, amides, lactones and peptides under mild reaction conditions. Remarkably, this reagent can be used in catalytic amounts in conjunction with a sacrificial reagent, offering a new and efficient method for nucleophilic coupling reactions of carboxylic acids.

NiMnO3 was found to be an efficient catalyst for light-driven water oxidation using [Ru(bpy)3](2+) and S2O8(2-) as a photosensitiser and a sacrificial oxidant, respectively. NiMnO3 exhibited remarkably high catalytic activity in comparison with manganese oxides and nickel oxide. For electrochemical water oxidation, the highest catalytic current was also obtained with NiMnO3 among the manganese ...

A novel electrochemical procedure for the preparation of metal complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes using imidazolium salts or corresponding silver-NHC complexes as carbene sources and electrolytes, and metal plates as the sacrificial anodes is described. The procedure is simple and good yielding without the use of expensive or air-sensitive reagents.

Photocatalytic conversion of cellulose to sugars and carbon dioxide with simultaneous production of hydrogen assisted by cellulose decomposition under UV or solar light irradiation was achieved upon immobilization of cellulose onto a TiO2 photocatalyst. This approach enables production of hydrogen from water without using valuable sacrificial agents, and provides the possibility for recovering ...

Magnetic field-responsive iron oxide-loaded hollow mesoporous silica nanocapsules that exhibit high drug loading capacity were synthesized using polymer nanospheres as sacrificial templates. Due to their magnetic field induced heating and remotely triggered drug release capabilities, these hybrid nanomaterials provide an excellent platform for the combination of hyperthermia and chemotherapy.
