The aim of this research was to investigate the root colonization percentage of grain sorghum cultivars by two species of mycorrhizal fungi and its effect on some of morphological and agronomic traits. Experiment was laid out as factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications. Experimental treatments included three levels of fungi (F1: control without inoculation, F2...

Sequence analysis of the chromosomal Tn5lacZ flanking regions of the Pseudomonas fluorescens WCS365 competitive root colonization mutant PCL1206 showed that the Tn5lacZ is inserted between genes homologous to bioA and potF. The latter gene is the first gene of the potF1F2GHI operon, which codes for a putrescine transport system in Escherichia coli. The position of the Tn5lacZ suggests an effect...

The complete genome sequence of Bradyrhizobium icense LMTR 13T, a root nodule bacterium isolated from the legume Phaseolus lunatus, is reported here. The genome consists of a circular 8,322,773-bp chromosome which codes for a large and novel symbiotic island as well as genes putatively involved in soil and root colonization.

We propose that mycorrhizal colonization of roots alters nonhydraulic root to shoot communication of soil drying. Split-root rose (Rosa hybrida L. cv Samantha) plants-one side of the root system colonized by Glomus intraradices Schenck & Smith, the other side nonmycorrhizal-displayed different stomatal conductances upon partial drying, depending upon whether mycorrhizal or nonmycorrhizal roots ...

Colonization of land by plants was a major transition on Earth, but the developmental and genetic innovations required for this transition remain unknown. Physiological studies and the fossil record strongly suggest that the ability of the first land plants to form symbiotic associations with beneficial fungi was one of these critical innovations. In angiosperms, genes required for the percepti...

The ability of the microbial agent Pseudomonas (Ps.) chlororaphis Tx-1 to suppress Pythium aphanidermatum and Pythium dissotocum, and control root rot, was investigated as a function of time of agent application and pathogen inoculation in vegetativestage sweet peppers grown in single-plant hydroponic units. The agent was applied to the nutrient solution at 1 10 CFU/mL and roots were inoculated...

Arbuscular mycorrhiza is a mutualistic plant-fungus interaction that confers great advantages for plant growth. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi enter the host root and form symbiotic structures that facilitate nutrient supplies between the symbionts. The gibberellins (GAs) are phytohormones known to inhibit AM fungal infection. However, our transcriptome analysis and phytohormone quantificati...

in the course of the present study, samples were taken from the non-defoliant strain of verticillium dahliae (ss-4) from infected olive groves in toshan area in southern gorgan. root-knot nematode, meloidogyne javanica, was recovered from infested olive seedlings and after identification was reaned on tomato seedlings cv. rutgers. during the study, one-year-old seedlings of olive cultivars zard...

Four nodulating annual tropical wild legumes, viz., Alysicarpus monilifer, Desmodium triflorum, Indigofera linnaei and Tephrosia purpurea from three different regions in the Western Ghats ecosystem were investigated to assess their mycorrhizal status. The response ofvesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) root colonization and spore number to edaphicfactors such as soil moisture, pH and availabl...

Among closely related citrus genotypes growing in high phosphorus (P) orchard soils, there is a tendency for less mycorrhizal-dependent (M-dependent) species to have lower rates of root colonization than more M-dependent species. We hypothesized that the less M-dependent the citrus species the more limited is their carbohydrate (CHO) allocation to the M fungus. In a glasshouse study at low and ...
