Retreatment is common in endodontics. The purpose of this article was to classify the different clinical situations encountered in retreatment cases and relate them to the outcome after an observation period of 24 months. A total of 425 patients (452 teeth) from 451 patients, consecutively admitted for root-canal retreatment, were monitored during a 24-month period. All teeth (254 molars, 107 p...

The root canal anatomy of mandibular incisors can present a number of variations, including multiple canals. Two case reports are presented to illustrate the serendipitous discovery and successful non-surgical endodontic management of complex canal systems in mandibular incisors. In both cases, all four mandibular incisors had two canals each.

INTRODUCTION Root canal anatomy and canal preparation instruments affect the outcome of endodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the root surface strain (SS) generated and the extent of canal center transportation during canal shaping using 3 different nickel-titanium instruments. METHODS Simulated root canals in resin blocks (n = 10 per group) were prepared using adap...

Numerous terminologies have been employed in the dental literature to describe the roots and root canal systems of maxillary molars. This multiplicity in naming of roots and canals makes the reader susceptible to misinterpretation and confusion. No consensus thus far has been arrived at for defining the names of roots and root canals in maxillary molars, including their various morphological ab...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS It is critical to have a proper knowledge of the normal anatomy of the pulp and its variations for the success of endodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the canal configuration and the prevalence of C-shaped canals in mandibular first and second premolars in a North-Western Iranian population. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 163 extracted mandibular ...

AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of the results of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations, confirm the presence or absence of the second mesiobuccal (MB2) root canal in maxillary first and second molars, estimate the distance between the root canal orifices, observe the root types based on Vertucci classification system, and make comparisons between CBCT and per...

Comprehensive knowledge about the variations of morphology and anatomy of the roots and root canal systems in permanent teeth is an important factor to reach successful outcome. The aim of this case report was to explain nonsurgical endodontic treatment and long term follow-up of a mandibular second premolar with unusual root and root canal morphology. 10-year-old girl was referred with a compl...

UNLABELLED Need for the study: The most important procedure for a successful endodontic treatment is the cleaning and shaping of the canal system. Understanding the internal anatomy of teeth provides valuable information to the clinician that would help him achieve higher clinical success during endodontic therapy. AIMS To evaluate by computed tomography-the internal anatomy of mandibular sec...

Accumulation of soft tissue or dentinal remnants in the apical region is a common event that can cause blockage of root canals. This event can be avoided if apical patency is performed during the root canal shaping procedures. However, there is no consensus on the role of apical patency in relation to the success of endodontic treatment of necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis. Therefore, th...
