Background and objective: Landslide susceptibility zoning using different methods is one of the landslide management strategies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the landslides susceptibility in the Bar watershed in Khorasan Razavi province using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. Method: First, the landslide layer of the area was corrected through field visits and Google Earth...

We present a method of control of chaos in area-preserving maps. This method gives an explicit expression of a control term which is added to a given area-preserving map. The resulting controlled map which is a small and suitable modification of the original map, is again area-preserving and has an invariant curve whose equation is explicitly known.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are gaining attention as substitutes for antibiotics in order to combat the risk posed by multi-drug resistant pathogens. Several research groups are engaged in design of potent anti-infective agents using natural AMPs as templates. In this study, a library of peptides with high sequence similarity to Myeloid Antimicrobial Peptide (MAP) family were screened using p...

There are algorithms for finding zeros or fixed points of nonlinear systems of equations that are globally convergent for almost all starting points, i.e., with probability one. The essence of all such algorithms is the construction of an appropriate homotopy map and then tracking some smooth curve in the zero set of this homotopy map. HOMPACK is a mathematical software package implementing glo...

Let C be an algebraic curve of genus g ≥ 3. Let us assume that C is not hyperelliptic, so that it is isomorphic to its image by the canonical map φ : C → P. Enriques proved in [1] that φ(C) is the intersection of the quadrics that contain it, except when C is trigonal (that is, it has a g 3) or C is isomorphic to a plane quintic (g = 6). The proof was completed by Babbage [2], and later Petri p...

In this paper we describe the compactification of the Drin-feld modular curve. This compactification is analogous to the compact-ification of the classical modular curve given by Katz and Mazur. We show how the Weil pairing on Drinfeld modules that we defined in earlier work gives rise to a map on the Drinfeld modular curve. We introduce the Tate-Drinfeld module and show how this describes the ...

A Riemann surface is associated with its Jacobian through the Abel map. Using a plane algebraic curve representation of the Riemann surface, we provide an algorithm for the numerical computation of the Abel map. Since our plane algebraic curves are of arbitrary degree and may have arbitrary singularities, the Abel map of any connected compact Riemann surface may be obtained in this way.

We use localization to describe the restriction map from equi-variant Chow cohomology to ordinary Chow cohomology for complete toric varieties in terms of piecewise polynomial functions and Minkowski weights. We compute examples showing that this map is not surjective in general, and that its kernel is not always generated in degree one. We prove a localization formula for mixed volumes of latt...

Let K (K = K2 whose residue field is K1 whose residue field is K0, see the notation in section 1 of Part I) be a two-dimensional local field of equal characteristic. Thus K2 is isomorphic to the Laurent series field K1((t2)) over K1. It is convenient to think of elements of K2 as (formal) loops over K1. Even in the case where char (K1) = 0, it is still convenient to think of elements of K1 as (...
