This work reports and illustrates the application of enhancement techniques to images of nervous system from a confocal microscope. These images are processed to enhance regions of interest, e.g. nucleus and nervous terminations. Hidden information due to non-ideal acquisition must be exposed after processing, and errors such as non-uniform brightness, noise and artifacts must be eliminated.

Fall detection, especially for elderly people, is a challenging problem which demands new products and technologies. In this paper a fuzzy model for fall detection and inactivity monitoring in infrared video is presented. The classification features proposed include geometric and kinematic parameters associated with more or less sudden changes in the tracked human-related regions of interest. A...

This paper presents a methodology for localization of manmade objects in complex scenes by learning multiple feature models in images. The methodology is based on a modular structure consisting of multiple classifiers, each of which solves the problem independently based on its input observations. Each classifier module is trained to detect manmade object regions and a higher order decision int...

Multi-subject fMRI data is critical for evaluating the generality and validity of findings across subjects, and its effective utilization helps improve analysis sensitivity. We develop a shared response model for aggregating multi-subject fMRI data that accounts for different functional topographies among anatomically aligned datasets. Our model demonstrates improved sensitivity in identifying ...

Unsupervised and touchless image acquisition are two problems that have recently emerged in biometric systems based on hand features. We have developed a real-time model-based hand localization system for palmar image acquisition and ROI extraction. The system operates on video sequences and produces a set of palmprint regions of interest (ROIs) for each sequence. Hand candidates are first loca...

Quantifying and designing the cost pool generated by Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) would improve cost transparency and invoicing processes, allowing a fairer, more exact allocation of costs to service consumers. Yet there is still no method for determining BI&A costs to provide a base for allocation purposes. While literature describes several methods for BI&A cost estimation on an...

• ROI and the financial analysis of the benefits of training is not always the most important factor in evaluation, but it is certainly one amongst many important factors which can be considered. • ROI is not essential or even necessary for every form of training, but it is vital in many cases. • ROI and Kirkpatrick’s model of evaluation are not mutually exclusive; in fact I deem that both are ...

Introduction: Intra-organ radiation dose sensitivity is becoming increasingly relevant in clinical radiotherapy. One method for assessment involves partitioning delineated regions of interest and comparing the relative contributions or importance to clinical outcomes. We show that an intuitive method for dividing organ contours, compound (sub-)segmentation, can unintentionally lead to sub-segme...
