The paper shows how the diffusive movement of ions through a channel protein can be described as a chemical reaction over an arbitrary shaped potential barrier. The result is simple and intuitive but without approximation beyond the electrodiffusion description of ion movement.

We introduce a model detector which registers the passage of a particle through the detector location, without substantially perturbing the particle wave function. (The exact time of passage is not determined in such measurements.) We then show that our detector can operate in a classically forbidden region and register particles passing through a certain point under a potential barrier. We sho...
Shape-Persistent Replica Synthesis of Gold/Silver Bimetallic Nanoplates Using Tailored Silica Cages.
Shape-persistent replica synthesis of Au/Ag bimetallic nanoplates is invented. Using a tailored silica cage as a template for the synthesis, a successful shape-replication of Au/Ag bimetallic nanoplate is achieved at the cage core having geometry of initial Ag nanoplate. This work can open up the simple fabrication of multicomponent metallic particles, with nanogeometry being defined early at t...
The present communication demonstrates the proof of concept of using CoFe layered double hydroxide (CoFe-LDHs) nanoplates as an effective peroxidase mimetic to catalyze the oxidation of peroxidase substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine in the presence of H(2)O(2) to produce a blue solution. We further demonstrate successfully CoFe-LDHs nanoplate-based colorimetric assay to detect H(2)O(2) and...
Herein we describe an unusual localized corrosion that initiates on large {111} surfaces and ends with the complete fragmentation of the gold nanoplates, which is expected to develop into a specific method for processing large metal nanomaterials into smaller ones with desired shapes.
Dispersible microscale mirror particles were synthesized by linkage of citrate-coated gold nanoparticles and 3-aminopropylsilyl-modified Ca2Nb3O10 perovskite nanoplates. The mirror particles reflect 14-19% of light in the 500-800 nm wavelength interval with retention of polarization. Due to their directional reflection properties, laser-irradiated micromirror dispersions in solvents exhibit Bro...
CeO(2) nanoplates with a new hexagonal crystal structure (a = 15.30 Å and c = 6.24 Å) and uniform shape were synthesized and used as supports, showing high chemoselectivity for the catalytic hydrogenation of substituted nitroaromatics without sacrificing conversion under mild conditions.
Resolving the photonic modes in real space is essential to understand fundamental process and control of behavior optoelectric devices. However, understanding semimetal Cd3As2 still lacking. Herein, quasicylindrical waves (QCW) on nanoplates using photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) are found out. The QCW due optical field scattered by subwavelength indentations, with wavelength being same...
The morphologies/dimensions of Au nanostructures can be tailored by merely controlling the reduction degree of graphene oxide surface. Au nanoparticles, long Au nanowires, and semicircular-shaped Au nanoplates are in situ synthesized on slightly, moderately, and highly reduced graphene oxide films respectively, without the need of any templating agent.
We present an effective method to synthesize 15 nm magnetite nanocrystals with the morphology of square and circular nanoplates, which expose (001) facet and (111) facet, respectively. The magnetic property and electrochemical behavior towards As(III) exhibit strong facet-dependent characteristics. Theoretical calculations confirm the facet-dependent characteristics and provide the correspondin...
