In zero magnetic field, conductance measurements of clean one-dimensional (1D) constrictions defined in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures show twenty-six quantized ballistic plateaux, as well as a structure close to 0.7(2e 2 /h). In an in-plane magnetic field all the 1D subbands show Zeeman splitting and in the wide channel limit the g-factor is | g |= 0.4, close to that of bulk GaAs. For the last s...
The apparently straightforward evaluation of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida RKKY range function, or more generally, of the linear density modulation n x induced at zero temperature in a noninteracting onedimensional electron gas by a localized static impurity modeled with a function potential has proven surprisingly troublesome. Although the original calculation gave an incorrect answer,1 mo...
tellurium nanostructures have been prepared by physical vapor deposition method in a tube furnace. the experiments were carried out under argon gas flow at a pressure of 1 mbar. tellurium powder was evaporated by heating at 350°c and 430°c and was condensed on substrates at 110–250°c, in the downstream of argon gas flow. the products were characterized by field emission scanning electron micros...
We study the spin Coulomb drag in a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas of finite transverse width, including local field corrections beyond the random phase approximation (RPA). We find that the finite transverse width of the electron gas causes a significant reduction of the spin Coulomb drag. This reduction, however, is largely compensated by the enhancement coming from the inclusion of many-...
A weakly interacting Bose gas with a single static impurity is studied in one dimension under the assumption that its phase coherence length longer than system size. The local spectral density evaluated and an analytic expression valid for positive strengths of coupling to bosons, at all distances frequencies, obtained using Bogoliubov--de Gennes approximation.
Ever since Milliken’s famous experiment it is well known that the electrical charge is quantized in units of the electronic charge e. For that reason, Laughlin’s theoretical prediction of the existence of fractionally charged quasi particles, put forward in order to explain the Fractional Quantum Hall (FQH) effect, is very counter intuitive. The FQH effect is a phenomenon that occurs in a Two D...
