Lactic acid bacteria found as sub-dominant component of the human and animal microbial gut represents one of the most significant groups of probiotic organisms. During the last decade probiotics become an important and viable ingredient in the functional foods as well as the pharmaceutical industry. In this paper, we shall review the most important findings with regards to the in vitro screenin...

Lactic acid bacteria are known to exhibit probiotic properties through various mechanisms, including competitive exclusion, pathogen inhibition, production of antimicrobial substances, and maintenance of eubiosis. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of a novel probiotic strain, Lactobacillus rhamnosus strain NRRL B-442, which exhibits potent antivirulence activity against Salmonella ente...

Bacillus subtilis is currently used as an oral probiotic. We examined two commercial B. subtilis probiotic preparations, Enterogermina and Biosubtyl. Surprisingly, physiological and genetic characterization of the bacteria contained in each of these preparations has shown that neither contains B. subtilis.

BACKGROUND Listeria monocytogenes, an intracellular foodborne pathogen, infects immunocompromised hosts. The primary route of transmission is through contaminated food. In the gastrointestinal tract, it traverses the epithelial barrier through intracellular or paracellular routes. Strategies to prevent L. monocytogenes entry can potentially minimize infection in high-risk populations. Listeria ...

Introduction; Acne vulgaris or commonly called acne, is a disease that generally suffered by teenagers. caused the formation of colonies pathogenic bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes and S. epidermidis. Excessive use antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance. Therefore, there need for other alternatives antibiotics. Probiotics be an alternative antimicrobial against P. epidermidis bact...

BACKGROUND Probiotics are used in the therapy of inflammatory bowel disease. This study aimed to determine whether prior administration of probiotic lactobacilli and bifidobacteria would prevent disease and change gut flora in an animal model of colitis. METHODS Swiss albino mice received a probiotic mixture (four Lactobacillus and four Bifidobacterium species) or medium (control) for a week ...

Nowadays, there is increasing interest in the production of functional foods, particularly probiotic foods. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) particularly strains of Lactobacillus are important bacteria in food microbiology and human nutrition due to their ability to fermented food production and have received considerable attention as probiotics. The traditional fermented dairy foods as a rich source...

Introduction: Aflatoxin M1 is an important mycotoxin frequently found in milk and dairy products. The main objective of this work was to study the stability of AFM1 during production and refrigerated storage of probiotic yogurt. Materials and methods: Two kinds of probiotic yogurt were made by cow’s milk artificially contaminated with aflatoxin M1 at a level of 100 ng/l, and fermented...

The lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are an industrially important group of probiotic organisms that play an important role in human health by inhibiting harmful and pathogen bacteria growth, boosting immune function, and increasing resistance to infection.  This study aimed to isolate, identify, and biologically characterize probiotic LAB strains from Iranian traditional dairy products. A ...
