Use of molecular profiles and clinical information can help predict which treatment would give the best outcome and survival for each individual patient, and thus guide optimal therapy, which offers great promise for the future of clinical trials and practice. High prediction accuracy is essential for selecting the best treatment plan. The gold standard for evaluating the prediction models is p...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The incidence of stroke and the demand for stroke rehabilitation services continues to increase, and it has been proposed that age be used in combination with severity of stroke to determine type of rehabilitation. It is important to identify the impact of age on functional outcome before embracing a system that limits access to rehabilitation on the basis of age. METHO...

Selecting new and more predictive variables is fundamental for scorecards to perform well. This study makes use of a very large set of credit scoring data and investigates the application of several variable selection techniques for scorecard development. Among the four different techniques used, stepwise regression, which is currently the most popular technique used in practice, was found to p...

Escherichia coli isolates causing urinary tract infection in 83 male infants younger than 90 days with and without bacteremia were compared for phylogenetic groups and the presence of 10 virulence factors. Our result suggest that the absence of both hemolysin and antigen K1 may be used as a negative predictive factor for bacteremia.

Background. Identifying the risk factors peculiar to each population has a great relevance, because it enables health policy formulators to analyze information accurately and by doing so, define objectives and action programs aimed at a qualitative and economically feasible solution to the problem. Thus, this study aimed at identifying the risk factors for survival in elderly in a city in the s...

A predictor sort experiment is one in which experimental units are allocated on the basis of the values of a predictor variable that is correlated with the response. Standard ANOVA analyses of predictor sort experiments can lead to confidence intervals whose actual coverages are poor matches to nominal coverages. Correct coverages can be obtained by adjusting confidence interval lengths by appr...

The comparative sensitivity of ordinal multiple regression (OMR) and least squares regression (LSR) to criterion variable deviations from interval scaling was investigated by way of computer simulation. LSR on raw scores and ranks was compared to OMR on raw scores, ranks and dominances. Simulated data sets varied on predictor variable correlations, amount of prediction error, weight distinctive...

Authors analyze the characteristics of the stage pT1 and pT2 colorectal cancer and carry their experience on 68 patients operated. The survival of the colon carcinoma has been of 91% to 2 years and 88% to 5 years, while for the rectum has been of 90% to 2 years and 84% to 5 years. The attitude of the Authors has been to perform radical surgery. Lymph node metastases has been taken like only sur...

OVERVIEW Patient-provider communication is vital to quality patient care in oncology settings and impacts health outcomes. Newer communication datasets contain patient symptom reports, real-time audiofiles of visits, coded communication data, and visit outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to: (1) review the complex communication processes during patient-provider interaction during oncology ca...
